Dennis,
the Yankee Race was awesome, and everything seemed to go smoothly. I really liked the "Team Row" setup, and it was good to see results up almost immediately! Good job to everyone involved in this race.

Is there a total racer count for the day? How did the total compare to years past?

I have only one *minor* complaint :o I really wasn't digging most of the music selection.....we should want to motivate the riders, not put them to sleep!!

I believe the total turnout was 552 but will get a specific total when I start tabulating CPS standings.

I sent a pdf to the webmeisters and it will be linked in the near future on the race page next to the Yankee listing but until then the above will suffice.

Music- the guy had a great sound system- we asked him to ensure any music that may have swearing or other objectionable material was not used.. Personally I kinda liked the techno and the Rock/classical mix
... but I like progressive rock :D

I agree, "Team Row" was awesome!! I hope Custer can do the same. Thanks for the posting so promptly!!

As for the times, Since it hasn't rained since the snow, the course was quite SANDY, which is typical Yankee in late June on, but I think it really effected the times today. I rode late March and last weekend, and it is amazing how much things can change.

Also, was anyone else looking for shade. Man, about four miles in, I was wishing the leaves were on the trees to block the sun, my head was cooking! It felt so good to get into the pines and have a block.

Thanks to all!!!! I had a great time!!!

Dennis, Cris, Cathy, Mike, etc....... Nice job by the chapter putting on the race! Great job on posting the results quickly as well instead of having to wait 4 days!

Yea, those trails are very well maintained, and the MMBA put on a smoother operation than I ever would have expected.

I heard coming into the race that "faster riders complete the TT in under an hour." My goal was to break an hour, and would you believe I came in at 59:59??? hahaha

I'm looking forward to the custer race, see you guys there.

A great big "Shout Out" to the Western Chapter for a job well done. Considering these folks are not race promoter's by profession they pulled off a considerable event with no hitches. The Yankee Springs TT always feels like the first day back to school. New year, new stuff, new people. Always a good time.

I thought the race went very smoothly. Nice job! My only complaint: I really wanted an event t-shirt. :( The timing people did an amazing job. I don't think I heard anyone complain. The results were posted quickly at the site, and here tonight. Very cool. Really great job.

Dennis,

The event went well, but a few comments.

First off, it'd be nice to know your start time on the number or on a list. Added expense, yes, but nice nonetheless, especially when...

Registration wasn't supposed to open till 9 am. For riders going off first, that means I'm standing in line when I'd like to be warming up, regardless if I prereg or not.

What's the need for numbers on the bike, transponders, and numbers (that were actually probably hard to read) on the body? That's probably the timing people, I'm sure. Just seems excessive.

Ditto on the music. I was struggling to find the atmosphere. And, though it's smart to not have the poor language, there was a slip with Disturbs "down with the sickness". Personally, I didn't have issues because that was on my MP3 player in my warm up mix. :D

Beautiful day for a race!

I too heard a couple of complaints on this but there isn't much middle ground between assigned times vs quick results

we basically have three options:
1. assigned times
2. assign times that aren't really assigned
3. no times assigned

Assigned times
I don't think there's any doubt that in the past assigned times contributed to the delays in results. Times were assigned to specific people in the previous system and if there was a gap, or shift in the system - as occurred in the past, it took literally hours to figure the error.

also- assigning times is labor intensive- it also means the times either need to be posted in a huge list or labeled onto the BIBs. This means that we need even more BIBs than we had- because what happens when you run out of BIBs assigned to a category?

#2
we can "assign" times- in which we tell you that your start is 11:30:30 but since the chip beeps you IN to the system as well as out, the time isn't really important. But if you know the time is not firm. what prevents Joe SMith from spinning and missing his start time and getting to the line and wanting to be slotted in immediately so he goes out in peak warmup.. while everyone else did the right method and got in line like they needed to? And if Joe misses his start and goes to back of the list..then his spin was minimized in the end

#3
I favor NO assigned times and to PUSH preregistration. Since riders go of every 15 seconds. you can effectively calculate your start time.. if you are the tenth racer in your group and it leaves at 1137am you will go off at 1139:30. Of course this only works for pre-registered- but in my opinion that would be the perk of pre-reg.

This approach stresses pre-registration, leaves numbers flexible and makes result return quick. I am not personally absolutely opposed to specific start times provided it can be done effectively while giving us the ability for quick results. I am open to suggestions- maybe there's a scenario I missed above. But yes- the line for pre-reg especially was my biggest failure in planning (see below)

_____________________________

Numbers- yes it was duplicative. We got the RoadID numbers free from RoadID as a sponsor along with the ten gift certs to give away. It would have been improper to NOT use them when they gave us free stuff like that. We ordered the bike numbers because typically Numbers are on the front of the bike. Numbers at the start line help the start volunteers.
- could we get by with one or the other (or both?).
- would the RoadID numbers work on the front of the bike?

ALso- and this did not occur to me until later in morning- the RoadID numbers had a little RAFFLE ticket!! we could have used THOSE instead of the blank sheets of paper we had! doh!

we will look at this for next year- if RoadID isn't a series sponsor it may make no difference- If they are- we can then review the suggestions.
_______________________

We've already discussed next year and plan to correct my error in set up.. namely, we will have a SEPARATE line for pre-registered riders from day-of. Also- I neglected to print a list sorted by last name- Gault got that to us a bit after we opened.

The chapter race committee has already begun a "lessons learned" activity and Sue will be posting a formal committee statement, but your feedback is welcomed and helpful

Thanks for racing Yankee!

Reluctant Racing would like to extend our appreciation to the race organizers as it was a very good day. We have no suggestions as we are not qualified to make any.

The starter guy rocked--even when that idiot came late, ignored the starter and jumped the start. THAT DUDE WAS AN IDIOT!

I like the numbers thang! Got mine hanging on the wall now!

Good job, Dudes!

Great job Dennis! I had fun even though I used my 2nd wind before mile 2. My first single speed race was a good one and I cannot wait until next year. 42nd out of 43, not bad in my book because I finished and that was my goal!
