Hi All,

Big thanks are due to Washtenaw County Parks Dept. for sending a crew out to the Park today with a big mower to help us re-establish the "lost" trail in the northwest corner of the Park. Almost the entire trail is now mowable with a riding mower, which will greatly simplify maintenance. Kudos to Ed and Kevin for their help.

Having the replacement trail mowed greatly reduces the list of things we need to accomplish this weekend to get the trail in tip-top shape for the riding season. Come on out and help us finish up and take a ride, too.

Nature note of the day: Both Kevin and I saw large garter snakes and the spring peepers were in full voice. SMP is a great place for herp lovers.

Cheers, Norm

Thanks to all who showed up for the trail work day this morning. The whole trail is now officially open for the year.

The work today consisted of some clean-up and additional flagging on the new section of trail in the NW corner of the park, further rennovation of the northside of the central treeline, and mowing in a short re-route around a perennially wet area in the SW corner of the northern Ag field.

Major props to Greg and Dan for providing and operating the mechanized equipment that made the jobs go so quickly and effectively.

What the trail needs now is riding to establish the tread in the new and rennovated areas and everywhere else to keep the vegetative growth down. Go for a RIDE!

Nature note: A northern oriole was spotted by the new re-route,

Glad I got my ride in yesterday! the new reroute in the northwest corner is great, a little rough but well laid out and a nice climb. as per usual the grass is a growin' but it was still very rideable. the reclaimed trail in the middle fencerow is awesome. it is a completely different trail than last year. also the river was hoppin' with critters. certainly a great place for an evening ride. if you haven't been here before, its worth the trip.

Might be able to sneak out to Sharon Mills this weekend. I haven't been out there for a while and it sounds like some recent improvements have been made. Is the map on the MMBA Trail Guide still fairly accurate? http://mmba.org/library/maps/sharonmill ... 5Oct08.jpg

Chris that map is close enough. might want to bring the fat bike as the northwest corner is a little rough. lots of fun though.

Had a very nice ride here this morning. The trails are in good shape right now, although the grass in the reclaimed tree line section is already growing fast in a few areas.

Good job getting it back in shape. Thanks.

Hi All,

A new/revised map of the Sharon MIlls trail has been posted in the Trail Description section of the Chapter's website. In particular, it shows the re-alignment of the trail in the northwestern corner of the park. Get out and ride, the trail needs it.

Hi All,

The main trail is in fine shape. The parallel trails down the old road bed in the middle of the ark were mowed yesterday, however, there are still a few overhanging grass, shrub and tree face slappers. We'll try to get to them later this week. There are also four trees down on the stretch of trail that comes up from the river behind the houses across from the Mill parking lot. We may be able to get WCPR to remove them this week.

Cheers, Norm
