the spring mill pond area is where you really need your head on swivel. it's wide open with some hills & dunes. the snowmobilers get going pretty fast thru there. most of the other areas in ILRA are pretty tight & tough to build up a lot of speed.
ILRA is a one-way trail. However, riding in reverse direction is allowed at night w/lights. This way, any traffic travelling the normal direction can be seen with plenty of time to pull over and let those riders pass.

You can reverse direction in the winter...nobody is going all that fast anyway.

No, but I am not in charge! Years ago when it was reversed people rode it the wrong direction for years after. I would say go ahead and ride in reverse, but do it in off peak hours or in the dark. The loupe south of the river is probably open enough to be sorta save. Be ready with you excuse when other riders yell at you. Just answer in a thick foreign accent. Het (yhet) comes to mind. Have fun and report back your adventure.
Trail was interesting enough on Sat, in the normal direction. 4" of virgin powder made for tough slogging but it got a bit easier once I passed a skier or two heading the other way. Trail will be really good once traffic compacts down the snow.
