Yes, Oakley Park. The road to the north that the school is adjacent to.
Hope is not a good strategy.

I'm not concerned with sand, but rather the Cro-Magnon holdout with the dirt bike/mini-bike I've seen zipping around Hickory Glen on the paved path. He came close to hitting me Friday afternoon, and of course gave me the requisite "tough guy" glare as he rode by. He looked as though he was old enough to know better. I gather the intelligence level and tendency toward criminal behavior is particularly high in this area, as I also routinely see reckless golf cart drivers flying down the path on the East side of S. Commerce.

All the areas of concern mentioned up until now have been centered around pools of sand at the bottom of the larger down hills that have the potential to injure an unsuspecting rider. The switchback rooted section along Oakley Park is only "difficult", not dangerous. You have to slow down so much with the hairpin turn, the only thing you could hurt would be your pride if you have to walk your bike up the hill. Maybe that section will get worse with continued erosion, but in my opinion, that section should be further down the list for now.

The Hick is one of the most well-built trails around. Due to its demand for skilled riding, I don't think it gets used nearly as much as it should. I think vandals and dirt bikers use it more than mountain bikers. I never see anyone out there, and I'm out there twice a day, three days a week. It's very tight and technical enough to send the dweebs over to tear up ILRA (dudes if you need to ride the brakes that much, just ride Kensington). The sand is just an added challenge, just like the apples are an added challenge on Orchard Loop of the Grinder.

Rode it backwards in the dark this morning. Pretty good flow in the reverse direction. Good bit of sand in the low spots from the rain last night, but decent overall.

How were the spider webs? I hate being the first one through to take them all out.

Not too bad, I saw someone with a light riding out of the park as I drove in. He must have jumped on that grenade.

Someone is removing the sand in some of the low spots. Hopefully this is with the blessing of the TC??

The MCMBA is conducting a survey regarding 2014 goal priorities.
If you ride the Hick or otherwise care for its maintenance and well-being please make your voice heard - click below and fill out the survey. And tell your friends too.
