Wahlfield Park Trails are ridable

Postby RickPlite » August 2nd, 2013, 8:48 am

Thanks to the few folks that came out last night. We got the Green trail field loop raked of the clear cutting debris. I rode the Orange, Purple, Green and Blue trail in this photo as an out and back loop for 4 miles total. The Orange trail is done, the upper leg of the Purple trail still needs bench cutting and the Green and Blue trail just need to be ridden in. Come help us finish the bench cutting on Wednesday nights so we can have a 4 mile trail to ride. An option also exists shown in red is to ride the paved shoulder of Alpine back to the parking lot for a two mile loop. As of now the trail can be ridden in each direction since it is getting very little use, just use caution. The Yellow Trail is planned for this fall and summer of 2014.

We meet every Wednesday eve from 5:30-8:30, please help us finish this trail faster! Turnouts have been quite low compared to Luton, Merrell, etc :(

when I say rideable, it does not mean the trail is finished or in A+ shape. Just go explore and see what we are up to, pack it in or better yet come help us build the remaining trail.

I forgot to mention, Perrin Brewery is 1.5 miles away! Tell them the trail brought you in.

Not sure if I hit all of the loops you mentioned, but here is what I found: http://youtu.be/S0_8oWz0FXc

I'm going to try to make it out this Wednesday night to work for a couple of hours.

Finally got out here for some exploration. Impressive what you guys have done so far. It's rough and new but I can really see what a great trail this is going to be. I hope my schedule will allow me to get out for some trail work soon. Do we know yet whether night riding will be allowed?

night riding won't happen, same as all Kent Co Parks, like Luton

Hiked about half of it today with my kids. It's nice to have the park right there with bathrooms and water plus a playground. Trail looks great and it felt like it was already packed down pretty good in a lot of areas. A lot of clay out there for sure along with some nice looking large old trees. One tree down across the trail toward the end of the orange section I think.

Trail is going to be another nice option in town. Thanks to all the volunteers!
