On the East Loop, as you pass the Mile 3 at the top of the hill and just start to pick up speed near the bottom of that first hill ..... DUCK!

Trust me on this one.

All of the East loop was in great shape when I left today. An Autumn Olive branch just about knocked me off my bike going over the last rock pile on Meadows loop so I killed it. There is a 4 inch tree down about 7.5, a hand saw would get it but I didn't have enough time today.

There are 3 trees down on the first 9.5 miles of the East Loop. The first one is after the 0.5 mile mark. Somewhere after that is a tree on the left side of the trail that started to lean to the left which has caused it's root system to create an interesting mound to go over in the middle of the trail. Its actually fun but may be a problem if the tree continues to fall further down. Then there are two trees down after the 7 mile marker, both just a little bit off the ground and both may require some chainsawing.
Otherwise the trail was much fun though rather bushy as the greens have really grown a lot this spring.

Removed the 2 trees on Meadows and a nasty face slapper about 3 miles in. The two obstacles mentioned about .5 miles in have been there all year and pose no hazardous condition.

Rode East today. short Loop, skipped meadow and Orchard, but holy cow, the trail is perfect! No sand traps and overgrowth is a non-issue. The Hess Rd entrance/exit is pretty overgrown, so I was a bit worried on the way in, but once I got to the main trail, it was wide open.

Went through it yesterday with a hand saw, meadows and orchard do have quite a lot of under growth.

West loop had a couple trees down. The first one (pretty small but sitting up off the ground) was before the washed out downhill section leading to "the Wall". Not really sure of the exact marker/mile. But it is on a fast downhill section laying just on the other side of a small rise around a corner. I barely had time to react before hitting it and going over the bars. It's just suddenly THERE! Another large tree is just before the Tech Loop turn off. Lots of small "deraileur sniper" sticks laying around and face smackers too.

A few of us rode all the loops over the weekend.

Sorry - I can't remember which trails were which, but here goes:
West loop (the easier flowy one) had a couple of trees down, including one pretty big one. Face-slappers not so bad.
North loop (not grubers) - lots of face slappers
East loop (grubers) - LOTS of face slappers. Especially in and around the orchard loop.(?) It was near impossible to see what was coming 5 feet ahead. Lots of really slow riding because we were afraid of what we might run into next. :)

EDIT: woops i now see that the post above mine addresses the tree down. Not used to the DDMMYY format on posts.

Removed the trees on the West, cleaned some low hanging limbs and brush on the Orchard. June 16th at 9am is a trail day if you don't show up don't complain about face slappers!! There is a tree down about 9.7 miles on East return that wasn't posted and it is a chain saw job.

It didn't rain yesterday in Holly. Last rain we saw was Friday or Saturday, and on Sunday, the trail was perfectly tacky. it'll be good to go today.
