The Milford Trail Challenge 2012: A Mountain Biking Epic

Postby Loren » May 10th, 2012, 10:58 am

The Milford Trail Challenge is an annual celebration of mountain biking in and around the Village of Milford. Bikers pick their own course and trails: Milford and/or Highland and/or Proud Lake and/or Hickory Glen and/or Island Lake and/or Kensington... all easily reachable from Milford with a minimum of road riding. You can tailor this anywhere from a fun trail ride with friends to an all-day 100 miler epic! Enjoy $1.50 beers and live entertainment at the Milford House between trails, camping 3 miles away at Proud Lake, and bask in the satisfaction knowing that you're supporting your local trails!

June 2nd, 2012

Entry Fee: $15 (Proceeds benefit the the Motor City Mountain Biking Association)

Registration: 8 ~ 11 am
Le Rendez Vous
289 N. Main Street Milford, MI 48381

(Fantastic baked goods - excellent source of fuel for the ride!)

A detailed map and suggested routes will be provided at registration, along with a wrist band for discounted beverages at the Milford House. Entertainment begins in the early afternoon. Please stop by, share your stories and adventures with other riders. Have fun, and enjoy downtown Milford.

This is a self supported and self directed ride. Bring water, food, money, cell phones - whatever you need for a day on the trails.

How about parking? Where is a good place to park?

There are several places to park. One is at the Milford Trail trailhead. It is only 1/2 a mile to downtown from there. There are also parking places behind the buildings on Main street. I suppose you could also park at the Prospect Hill Shopping Center, also 1/2 a mile away. There is a nice lot at the end of W Liberty Street (it dead ends at the railroad track, but is within shouting distance from registration). You have to take Highland Ave. south to get to it. I have never found parking to be a problem. Google map it and you will spot it.

Since this is a self supported ride anyhow...you can always show up pay the $15,collect the map, have a few beers and ride the route(s) when ever you want.

Just sayin. the $ goes towards a good cause (our trails) and you can even buy a nifty new Tshirt that says you were there :-)

Absolutely! The weatherman was wrong today :D The trails were in good shape for the most part. Proud Lake had a few messy areas to contend with, but that was about it. Thanks to everyone that made this happen.

I'm regretting staying home now. :( The forecast made it look ungood.

Great ride, great day! Trails were prime and the weather was beautiful! I rode Milford to Kensington to Island lake (yellow) back to Kensington, missed the turn-off back to Milford (doh!), did and extra 7 miles as a result, heading back to Milford and finished that trail for a total of about 44 miles. I'd say I rode with Santa Cruz but only saw him and his buddy Jeff when they stopped and waited for me.
Can't wait til next year. Thanks to all who made this happen.

Two short mud puddles on HIghland. Couple slimy climbs on Proud Lake. Otherwise, trails were great. Thanks folks for putting this together. It's always a great time.
