Is 2012 LogSplitter scheduled?

Postby landho » May 4th, 2012, 2:21 pm

I can't find anything on this event. Thought I read something somewhere that it may be on Jul 14... But nothing else... Anyone know more about this?

Despite the positive feedback and fun course, we decided to halt the Log Splitter because of the effort it took to put on vs. income generated for the chapter. We were at the point where we needed another dozen volunteers and a timing company to pull off a safe, quality event and we were not sure if it could be done or not.

Beyond that, Our goal has become to focus more on advocacy and inclusion rather than catering only to the racing crowd. We want to put on event's that racers and non racers can enjoy so this year we have something new. We are still tidying up the details, but the NMMBA and Short's Brewing will be bringing you the "Long and Short's" mountain bike tour on the North Country Trail starting from the High Rollaways near Mesick and ending up in Kalkaska. The ride distances are roughly 55, 25 and 16 miles. It will be fully supported, with aid stations, a fully catered dinner, a night of camping and of course Short's brew.

Keep an eye on http://northern.mmba.org/index.php/longandshorts/, and this message board in the ride announcements forum for updates.

Of course you can just register now at: https://www.bikereg.com/Net/16140

Hope to see you there!

The new event will be even better. A supported epic ride hitting some of the best trail northwest Michigan has to offer. The long route will take you along the edge of two different rivers, through mature forests and numerous wilderness lakes and ponds. The shorter routes get one river section, deep forests, fun trail and beautiful surroundings.

It's a great opportunity to allow you to explore a long section of a scenic trail that most of the time you would end up having to do an out and back on. If you are training for 100 milers and 12 hour races, it's a great opportunity as well since the long route will be about 7 hours of peddling for the faster folks and 10 to 11 for the slower.

We appreciate you supporting us in the Log Spliter in the past, and if you feel like attending a non-timed mountain bike event this season, this will be the one that sets the bar.

Our chapter fundraiser that's replacing the Long and Short's:

It will be a great, low key training ride for 100 milers and 12/24 hour races.

Cheers!
