My First ever ride; River Bends [PICS]

Postby Pr1m3 » April 24th, 2012, 10:47 pm

Hi all, just picked up brok3n's Trek 6500 and decided to finally take it out on a trail for my first ever ride. Had a good time, including breaks it took me about 1:50hr to go 7 miles at River Bends. I found out how bad of shape I'm in but I still had a great time and enjoyed all of it. I ended up riding the nearly everything, including all the seasonal track which included a few walks around mud pits. I can't wait to keep riding and improving! Here's the few pictures I stopped to take on the ride.

The little stream that I crossed by carrying my bike and walking over the logs. Part of seasonal route.

Same stream; Thing was actually flowing pretty quick, these are looking back after I crossed it.
Image
Downed tree over the seasonal loop.
Image
Last downed tree, it actually covers the trail twice, since it does a u-turn a few feet past it.
Image
Looking back after I emerged from the forest. What a fun ride.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone who puts time into such a fun trail!

Looks like a great ride I will have to look into that trail. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! We've put a bunch of work into the trail there.

Can you tell me where that downed tree was located? If you can point to a spot on the map or even just let us know if it's in the seasonal loops or regular stuff that'd be very much appreciated.

Steve, it is located before the re-route from the pond, I think after the log pile in the new return section. Billy. Jer091 posted on it 4/17 under RB conditions. It covers the trail twice.

Second one was on the return I'm pretty sure, nearing the end of my ride. The first one which was more the top of a tree (branches etc) than the actual trunk, was on the seasonal.

I pointed to the first one in red.
I circled my guesses for where the second one is in blue, I don't remember exactly where but I know it was a pretty tight u-turn on the return.

Sorry its so small, was a lot bigger when I did it in paint, lol.
Hope it helps.

It's the northern most blue circle.

Hey can one of you two T.C'S move those logs that are in the bottom of the creek while you're
at it. Darn near hit those suckers when I went a cross the creek   . That would have
a very cold ride home. Now that I know they are there it's no biggie..but it does mess up my favorite
line.

I was a little afraid of it the first time i went thru, but made it with no problems. Then last week i did it again and almost ended up going down. It makes it interesting I guess.

Are you talking about the creek after the regular/seasonal split?

Also fixed the large downed tree with a reroute we were planning on in that area anyway.

Good call on that. That corner was a bit unnecessary and the trail flows quite a bit better now.

The logs in the stream crossing photo look dangerous and could be removed or paced down stream.

Great to see you out on the Trek! Even more awesome that you're out there having a good time, haha.

Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about those wheels, I've just been quite busy with transitioning from job to job... IE, I quit my old job, got a new job, then my old boss quit his job so I went back to job #1 but taking my boss's role.

I'm going to reach out to my teammate tonight and see if I can set up a time to go snag them, I'll keep you posted.

Cheers!

Those are the logs im talking about. If you know they are there not that big of a deal....but if you don't you
could end up wet. Sort of messes up the good line also.
