I just got in a dry lap. The trail was fine. There's a couple of winter ruts still present, and a few of the honeysuckle limbs already encroaching on the trail, but other than that, it was fast.
The new re-route is "new trail bumpy", but I feel that it really "connects" the trail.
I always felt that the old climb was the end of one trail section and the beginning of another. Now it all flows together.... if that makes any sense.....

The second lap was another story....Lets just say; it was cut short....

I have 'officially' rode Addison Oaks. My friend and I are convenienced that Addison Oaks translates to "up hill mountain biking" in Native American. I did like some of the fast downhills but my friend and I felt like it was all up hill..lol

There us definitely no messing around at Addison. The trail seemed to go fast however I don't think we started where we were supposed to.

All-in-all, great ride!

No it translated to brakes are the death of you.

Addison is a blast if you know how to use it's flow and maintain momentum. I hardly notice any singltrack climbs out there. The only one is out on the peninsula.

Addison is a great trail to learn on. What seems like a lot of climbing now will not seem like much after you have been riding for a while, especially when compared to some other trails. As JJ said, once you learn to use momentum you will find that many of the climbs can be ridden with little effort. For me it seems like the opening climb after crossing the bridge is the worst, probably because it is arguably the longest if you count all the way past the gravel road, and in a race everyone is still sprinting up the two track.

Awesome out there today, very fast. I like the new little reroute section, nice work everyone!

indeed a lot of possible spoke snappers down too, from all these gusty winds... one big tree down on the first climb section just up from the police post.

Really can't wait until they have a gate out to lk george rd, getting sick of throwing my bike over the fence if I ride alone to get in a loop of bald mt. n.
I likey da' bikey.

yeah, the oakland co. officers have their own little “shack“ if you go straight up the entrance drive, and there is an entrance trail right there to the left (west) of it.

...I just do part of addison up to two track that runs parallel to lk george rd, then basically cross the road into bald mt. and come back the same way. Makes for a really fun and uniquely varied loop that is quite long.

I highly dislike dirt road riding (esp. on SS geared for singletrack), to me that is not “mountain biking“, so I try to minimize it... just my personal outlook at the moment, not going to hate on anyone who does enjoy that type of riding...
so I guess I just hope that connector trail or gate is somewhere around there, haha

OK. That is the old entrance building. The cops are actually squatters in there. :D I think that building will be removed when the new connector is built.

That is also the site of the "old" trailhead. People still use it, but I rarely get over there, as you miss ~1 mile of really fun trail. I will inform the park of the downed tree.

Allegedly, the new connector will enter Addison almost directly across from Indian Lake Rd. That will make your loop a LOT easier. It is scheduled to be done by ~August.

And FWIW, I have found in my own riding that I am a much stronger rider when I have a lot of hilly dirt roads as a base. I try to mix them together. It has made a huge difference just so far this year. YMMV. :)

Or you only do one lap, exiting where you entered.

yep.

I always ride into the park, so that old trailhead is just my habit.

just wondering, what is YMMV?
I live in like a mecca of brutally hilly dirt roads to ride, haha, ever hear of big fish lk rd, or fox lk rd, or slew of others on the opposite side of m24 from me in metamora.... I used to ride them a bit, or in winter with studded tires (before fatbike), but I'll just ride more trails to get stronger...

These roads are on a regular schedule of routes taken for many of us in northern Oakland county
