Racing season is here :-) Short fuses. I've just got this nagging feeling #454 was joking. But what would I know about it?

Yeah, AllMountain is pretty *beep*. We should probably put him back in Beginner where he belongs! ;)

It's his second race; what is he thinking. I'm pretty sure he's one of those posers too, who stands around in his kit for hours after the race.

Is there day of Registration?
Poorly layed out web site and discussion.
Says sold out. Is it?
If not I will save gas and the enviroment and ride to the Poto.
Been 15 years since I've seen a MMBA race sell out.

email I received stated this. Not sure if they will take more this morning but it says maximum of 700 but that is pre-reg.

Heading out here in a half hour myself. #594 myself so I have till just after 1pm till I hit the trail head.

FROM: Yankee Springs Time Trial 2012 WMMBA Benefit Race-The 23nd Annual Time Trial
-------------------------------------------------

WOW- racers, you ROCK! We reached our maximum of 700 pre-registrations! HOLY COW.

This is not only the highest pre-registration participation we've had, but also the highest registration ! (Previous high was 616).

Start times are online now at:
http://www.mmba.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=110169

Please arrive approximately on your before you race

Swag drawing items will be awarded some time after 10am. Your BIB number will be assigned to an item if you've won it- please check the swag table after your race (Elites and experts) and before your race (sport and beginners). The only stipulation on SWAG is- I need a photo and name of the winners of the Velocity wheelset and Velocity rims for our generous 2012 sponsor!

Weather looks to be great tomorrow- cool and clear. If you come out to pre-ride remember there will be volunteers on the course setting up today.

I know that there is construction on I-96 near mile marker 10 this weekend. Also on the S-curve in Grand Rapids. So racers from the Muskegon area and north of Gr Rapids will have some delays. All racers should check their route for construction. Here's an M-DOT link for work around the state: http://mdotnetpublic.state.mi.us/drive/

See you Sunday!!

Thanks. I just like to give SSers flack. Not being serious.

My race day prep included 8 hours of hard drinking, so I think my goal will be to miss *most* of the trees. Anything beyond that is gravy.

Good luck to you out there. :-)

If you can ride a 50min lap at Yankee... you shouldn't be riding in the sport class.

Agree, a 50 min lap will proby get you win in sport.

Wait, if you win, you shouldn't be in the class you are in?

Btw, 50min didn't win most age classes in sport, but looking at the lap times in Expert it seems about right to me that the Sport class winners are finishing with high 40s.

[EDIT: last year, the winners in all but one of the age classes in geared Sport were in the 50s. The course must have been pretty fast this year. I was a little over 8 minutes faster than last year; still holding out hope it was the training and experience and not the conditions :-(]

The course was very fast this year especially with that one short technical climb out.
Maybe you should put ur glasses on and look again many of the expert racers were in the 50's, if you can run under 50 that usually means its time to move up a class, at least thats what ive always been told. Only a handful of sport racers out of hundreds were below 50min. And the person I quoted from originally obviously agreed.
Most of us could move all the way down to beginner to get a win but how cool is that.
Guess im still a little *beep* that after making room for a guy to pass he still had to take us both down. :?

I ended up at 52:25, but still won SS sport. I must have ran in a slow group, I had to pass 20 or more people, and was held up on many climbs. I think I could have been under 50 or close without those hold ups. Oh well! It was only my third race ever, so I'm happy with it.

When you're on your way to winning your class, everyone else will tend to seem like a "slow" group by comparison. I was 7th in the same class (a minute in a half behind you) and ran into similar situation, it's just part of racing. I imagine moving up to expert solves some of this. Congrats on the win!

Thanks! I'm sure it would, just not sure I have enough endurance yet for the longer races (with the additional laps of expert). I think I could have done a reasonably fast 2nd lap at Yankee, but the XC races I think I'd get owned the 2nd half of the race.

You would be surprised at how little those people effected your time... I a lot of people also, but I doubt any of them effected my time. You are not going to make up 2 and half mins due to people in front of you.

You could be right, but at one point I spend 4-5 minutes behind a guy who was also blocking two guys in front me, and he was riding at about 75% my speed (or less) and even worse on climbs. I don't think geared riders realize how much time SS people make up on climbs. In this case there just weren't many opportunities in that section to pass. After we all finally got around him, I had to pass two others to get back to my pace. That easily cost me a minute or more right there. Oh, and that was my 2nd lap ever at Yankee, and my first was right around 50 min...
