Exactly! Although all you really need to bring is yourself and a positive attitude.

That tree is just past the shortcut trail at the top of the next hill.

If it's rideable, could just build up a little bit of dirt and mike it a lil log pile..?..?

The park staff will probably take it out shortly.

I'm willing to help on trail day. Not much of a trail builder, but my suggestion would be to build up a few of the berms on the sweeping downhill left handed turns. I'm sure someone knows which ones I'm talking about. They have a pretty solid berm to start but then it turns into washed out sand. Not sure if this will require extra supplies, or if a shovel will do.

Building berms on a down hill might cause a speed/safety issue. Despite Maybury's gnarly nature, the trail is a very safe. Actually, Maybury has some of the best berms of any trail in the state. These berms are located just before the road crossing near the north east corner. But these berms are not on a down hill. Your speed thru these turns is determined, by your leg strength.
Maybury greatest features are the gnarly bermless down hills run.
Do Not go digging at Maybury without checking with the Trail Coordinator.

I really don't care for man made berms. Frankly I think the one that was put in last year or so was not an improvement. The ground seems to be more loose there now.

Roy, I don't think that we have the same idea here. Right before this section you were talking about is a skinny switchback between trees, then a big switch back, a little down hill, then a sweeping left turn. The berm is actually there already, but only the first half of it is solid. The second half is just worn down and sandy....(if anything I think this would be the safety concern because you carry speed around that corner and then you can wash out in the sand. ) So I'm not suggesting to make a new berm, just fix up the exsisting one.

Like I said, this was my sugestion for trail day. Not a random act of trail construction

In Atlanta we rode a place called Rosewell and the direction is different based on the day. One gets much more use out of the limited acreage that way and no one seemd to have a problem riding one direction on Saturday and another on Sunday.
For smaller areas this is a great idea. For larger areas its also a great idea. I dont see a downside, actually. :D

I have a meeting with the park supervisor on Thursday so I will bring up the backwards riding thing. Also we are having a trail day this Sunday at 9am. We will be improving the drainage and armoring a few of the low lying areas that constantly collect water. Also taking out a few leaners and widowmakers and widening the trail corridor at a couple of blind corners. We have lots of shovels and McClouds for every body. Meet in the clearing near the Day Camp Shelter.
That's where the paved trail turns to gravel.
See you there.

I'm not sure where the Day Camp shelter is, so I'll look that up.

One thing I wanted to mention. I've been riding Maybury 18 years since 1994. I've heard some murmurs about taking out some of the trees that are obstacles, like the "teepee" leaning pair about halfway around that have been there for years. There are also some bypasses showing up where people just ditch around the tougher way to ride because it's easier. I'm respectfully asking that we don't remove things that give the trail it's character and that don't pose a safety threat (like the fallen tree that I mistaken thought I could ride under yesterday...that's a safety item). It's mountain biking, not intended to be a speedway with no difficulty. I'd like to see the "around this tough tree" bypasses blocked off, and really want the tough, twisty things to remain that way. Just my 2-cents. Thanks for hearing me out.

Riding in from the 8 mile lot, there's a "y" just after the shelters. The right hand branch leads you to the trail head. Taking the left hand branch will take you to the day camp area where we'll stage the trailer.
