(NOTE: it did NOT Include any races all of which contract specifically for event insurnace for the races)

The MMBA used to pay for this for the entire organization- it was for trail work days etc -
My understanding is that in October each IMBA chapter this fall will need to contract this liability insurance themselve

Yep, and this was discussed and disclosed early on during the IMBA discussions. It's not new knowledge.

But, IMBA chapters can already get a discounted price on insurance over what the MMBA is currently pay, as we are getting an IMBA group discount. This discount is expected to grow as more chapters are joining the IMBA chapter program, and it has been stated by IMBA that they are working toward the insurance costs being paid for by IMBA rather then the chapters.

We are still fairly early in the IMBA chapter program, and part of the plan is to reduce the costs incurred by the chapters are the program grows and more money is going into the chapter program.

is Van Abel's letter available somewhere online?

I haven't seen that letter. I seem to be on the IMBA blacklist, despite years and years of sending them dues money.

I could not find this on line when I looked for it. I expected that they would have an e-version of the newsletter but it wasn't anywhere on their website (...that I could find...) I threw the darned thing away if I find it I will try scanning it and reproducing it here. Dennis I got your pm, thanks for taking the time. In the absence of this article I would like to post the 17 reasons to stay local, by Wendell Berry.

I've been getting a lot of IMBA mail lately too, but they've been membership confirmations for our chapter. 8)

Welcome email indeed!
