I'd be afraid that it wouldn't be high enough for me. My stock seat post bent because I had it past the "max height" line, so I need an extra long post.

I know a few places in the metro area where 5inch travel front and back is used to its fullest and a dropper is standard equipment.

You can bring a HT out there, but I can't promise you'll bring it home in one piece.

I'd like to see these places, and if I still had a hardtail I'd gladly bring it out.

Im not at all in disbelief of good trails existing. Im rolling my eyes a t your comment of a hardtail not coming out in one peice. Full suspension mandatory and adjustable seats necessary lol.

I'd still like to ride said trails

http://youtu.be/wv7TyakE8qw .........as ive always have said...its not the bike its the rider. With skill you can ride just about anything! Question is do you have the skill or the youth to be riding a hardtail and enjoying it.I'm getting up there in years yet i still rock the hardtail anywhere in michigan.Maybe its my bmx background but it suits me better. As for the original post I say go for it...why not if you have the coin.I have a trip planned this year out west and im thinking about adding a reverb to my downhill 6 inch bike(that i never ride in michigan) to be able to climb up real mountains to be rewarded with long downhills but if they had a chairlift the hardtail would be between my leggs...

Here's a ghetto option for those of you who don't want to spend $300 on a dropper seat post (and yes, it's really ghetto):

Here is something to remember about adjustable seat posts, do not clamp them by the seat post, I took my bike in to a LBS last week to get some new shifters put on, and guess what they did yep! clamped it in the repair stand by the seat post . To make a long story short they had to send it back sram to be serviced and I had to go back to a rigid one for the time being which sucks !!!! ............... :x :x :x       *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*
