Absolutely great today on the race loop. Packed snow was like riding on dirt and just a few short section of ice. The rest of the trail is OK but a little slower due to breaking through the snow.
Thanks for the tour. I ended up doing a couple more laps. 1 lap passing the hill and the next just going down it and starting from there. Felt like I knew the trail better on the third one so I could push it a little. Also the ice had broken up more. But by the time I was done with that lap the dirt sections were a mess so that was it.
The trails are not quite ready yet. Walked them Friday and they were close, with most of the ruts gone. Checked them again this morning and someone had ridden yesterday and left a new rut. Hopefully in the next few days, depending on the rain coming.
Hey, how is LOHS shaping up for riding? Bald N. wasn't bad... I haven't been to Bald S. yet. Some of the others ( Stony,PLRA)are doing suprisingly well. just checkin' in
Just finished riding the trail. It is 99% dry with just a few soft spots that still leave ruts. I am not concerned with them as we will go back and smooth or add fill later. I closed off the newest section for now since it is still very soft at the start and there is a tree down in the section. Surprisingly the section that has been closed since late fall is dry enough to ride but there are two trees down so it will remain closed until we can get them cleared. Otherwise I would say the trail is ready to ride!
Re-worked a section of bench cut this afternoon to make it a little wider and I also took out some of the kink half way down. It should make it both faster and safer.
Warning! The geese are back at the pond nearest the tennis courts. And they will attack. If you see them on the trail it might be best to use an alternative path. When coming out of the woods it might be better to go the right of the pond and up behind the tennis courts father than to the left. Just a word to the wise
LOHS trails are mainly dry, including the one long section that is now just a little soft, but not wet. I stamped out the ruts in thay section and tomorrow will be working on the newest section getting it ready to open.
Today we opened the two previously closed loops at LOHS, including the new section shortly after the .5 mile marker, and the section we closed last fall due to wetness. That means the entire race loop is now up to about eight miles!
Great! What time will you be out there? I plan on riding around 4:00 or so. It is pretty easy to follow the normal loop by staying on the worn in dirt path, starting from the edge of the upper parking area close to the soccer field and riding clockwise. But, there are a couple of sections that are easily overlooked since they branch off the main loop, sort of subsections of trail that could be bypassed.
