LOHS 2012 Tentative Race Schedule

After meeting with the school today we have a tentative race schedule for the coming year. More information to follow once I have the race details ready. These races will benefit the LO GAP program and will be run as a low entry fee/low budget production. No series awards this year. Think of the races as a grassroots racing alternative. The formats may change as we work through the logistics. Fall STX races still TBD.

Steve, could you explain the short track events?

Not sure if you are familiar with cyclocross but if you are, picture a similar type course but without barriers If you are not familiar, the course will be much shorter in length than a normal XC, probably close to 1.5-2 miles long and less technical, meaning little to no singletrack is used and the course can usually be ridden on a cyclocross or mountain bike. But it also means that the races are higher in intensity, albeit shorter in duration. Because of the shorter course length most races will be 5 or more laps so they are also fun for spectators.

Registration is open for the spring/summer series of races at LOHS. New this year are a team/solo duathlon and a team XC event. These are low cost, low key races and preregistration is only $10!

I measured the run portion of the duathlon and if we get permission from the park, should be about 2.1 miles. Just about the right distance for the bookends to the ride section of the race on June 2. We will have solo and male, female, and coed team classes.

The short track on June 16 will have to be moved from the evening to the morning. That way we can take advantage of the pool lobby and locker rooms. Start time TBD but probably 10:00 for Advanced/Sport and 11:30 for Beginner/JV/Middle School
