7 Mile Road Master Plan
LAST DAY OF THE COMMENT PERIOD
Posted Date: 10/31/2011
The comment period for the redevelopment of the 7 Mile Road Property will remain open through Monday 10/31. If you have not yet reviewed the four concept plans and provided feedback, please consider doing so. Your input will help guide the future development of this 350 acre township property. The feedback forms are located at http://www.twp.northville.mi.us/conceptplan

Below is a link where you can view and give feedback on 4 Concept Plans for the 7 mile property. Looking at the 4 plans, only B and D have a mountain bike trail listed. Both plans have it placed in the western part of the property, around the oil well. I am hoping this is not set in stone as it looks like there would be plenty of room on the eastern side along with the hiking and XC ski trails.

Please take a look and take the survey. It allows you to pick Mountain Bike Trail as very desirable and also pick it as a Top Priority for most plans even if it is not shown on the map. A comment field is also provided. Even if you are not from Northville, I don't think it would hurt. Make sure you mention that you frequent the area due to the cycling opportunities.

The Township also has another Seven Mile Property Feedback Form. I don't think it would hurt to fill it out as well.

As a side note Northville wants to develop a non-motorized route from downtown Northville to Maybury. I do not have any details as the Township Supervisor told me that this is only the beginning of the planning stage and they do not have any funding as of yet. I will keep everyone posted on this one as I think this would be a good thing for Maybury.

Thanks,

Jeff

Yep, good call. Filled out some more surveys. Still hopeful we get a destination-quality MTB trail here.

went to a meeting tonight and a mountain bike trail is sounding very promising, hiking trail was what most folks wanted overall.. plenty of room for both.

Here is an article in the local Northville paper.

http://www.hometownlife.com/article/20111208/NEWS12/112080472/Hospital-property-vision-narrowing?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Northville|s

Some of the good parts:

The eventual look of the park might be more like Maybury than Community Park.

Resident and mountain biker Jack Lee attended and said he and his friends are looking forward to using the planned trails, and he added he would be out there tomorrow to help construct them.

“Mountain biking has become very popular in Northville, so this park would definitely get a lot of use,” Lee said.

You can also look at a PDF of the plan linked to that article.

Another article in the Patch.

Included in the tasks for the Subcommittee is the following:
•Plan mountain bike trails: Explore and/or begin mapping out the biking areas and perhaps work with volunteers to begin building those trails. The mountain bike club in the area has offered to do this. It would likely take several years before the volunteers could raise enough funding and make the trails.

Excellent. We've been saving our pennies for the Psych trails, and are ready to begin anytime.

Being that I can easily ride my bike there, I'm patiently waiting to hear for a call for volunteers.

This is frickin' hilarious! Obviously, they have no idea who the "local mountain bike club" is. ;-)

Hey All, it's UPDATE time. We've had some great discussions with the Township, and things are moving along great. After a site visit and discussions, I've been able to suss out a VERY PRELIMINARY trail layout. It's basically two loops, Red and Blue, that intersect at an existing two-track access road - this is the Initial Trailhead, for all practical purposes. The park will be under development, so we're working out a scenario where people who drive to this trail will be able to park in one of the vacant lots along 6-mile, ride up thru the neighborhood, and access the trail. Over the next few weeks, I'll be using GPS route information to mark out the trail, and figure out where the trail really wants to go. It's easy to lay out on the computer, but as you all know, the site dictates the layout - so that's the real work. The red loop is about 1.3 miles and the blue loop is about 3.8 miles, but how long the trail will be will be anyone's guess. I will say that I will strive not to turn this trail into a small-intestine, in an attempt to max out the mileage - I hate that crap. Flow and fun is way more important than raw maximum mileage. The terrain out there ranges from mature forest canopy ravines, grassy meadows, orchards, gently rolling terrain, extensive rock piles, ridges, swales, etc - it's a very dynamic landscape that offers much with regard towards compelling trail designs. When I have a better handle on where the trail can go/not go, I'll post up here to enlist the vast forces of the MMBA to help construct what will be a terrific trail. Here's a few images to pique your interest further:
