Winter riding clothing

No more riding anywhere, way too much snow. We received over a foot of snow the past week with still more in the forecast later this week.

We'll be snowshoeing as a group event up to Lost Tamarack Pathway February 23rd, sunday, to check out the trail and enjoy some winter activities. You are welcome to join.

Aspen Park has groomed cc ski trails, plus several people have either skied or snowshoed the singletrack. Cool stuff.

Regarding the pants: No waterproof pants that I have seen. Also, Columbia makes a similar pair to the REI brand that sells for $85.00 or so at Jay's Sporting Goods. I don't know where else they are sold, however I would imagine any outdoor clothing store with Columbia would carry these pants. You may want to check out the Columbia outlet store in Birchrun. I grabbed some great deals on clothes a few months ago. Your next time up this way, it may make sense to stop in and check out the bargains.

I road the race with four (4) layers. One a base thin wicking, a regular long sleeve jersey, a fleece vest, then a wind shell. By the time I walked back to the finish line (only one lap) and changed, the fleece vest was socked with sweat. How much should you sweat during a race? Should I can the fleece vest next time?

Those Performance tights as posted by LITW look excellent. I was lucky to get my PI Amfibs cheap at Sierra Trading Post. Otherwise I'd go with those.

But why, I ask you, doesn't anybody make winter *bibs* with all that good windpanel construction? Even with a longtail jacket, the small of my back sometimes gets cold, and bibs give you extra protection in the chest, too. Yes, it's more hassle to "answer Nature," but that's true of lightweight bibs, too.

......Dan, the top and stretch pants that I got from COLDLIZARD.COM solved that problem for me. She cuts the pants 8-10" longer in the chest area so that the pant extends almost up to the bottom of your pecks. And, the shirt is also just a touch longer. Therefore, I haven't had any problems with exposed areas getting cold or mother natures callings!! ..........Kevin.....over..........

I've seen bibs on a female biker....it's not pretty, trust me. Plus it's most impractical when nature calls in the woods.

.....Bettybarb, check out the coldlizard.com. They have some good stuff for biking under crosscountry skiing. The Swift polartec powerstretch tights and top are the above mentioned. She is willing to custom fit you as well. I sent the 1st garment back and she tweaked it a bit to really fit me nicely. I bought 3 other garments after she had me custom fit. The tights aren't bibs, but they do cover your entire stomach\lower back real good. No problems with the cold getting to your back then!! Thanks Kevin for the tip. I'm not buying anything new clothes until I get to my pre-prego wt. Feel it would be a waste of $$$$ or it's just wishful thinking on my part and maybe I should be new clothes. Are their any females who actually got back to their wt after the birth of a baby? (men feel free to comment )

Interesting news about Performance. I hope they keep up the great service they have had in the past. I have dealt with quite a few mail order comapnies for varius reasons and Performance has been one of the best. I returned an item to them after two years use just to see what they would say, not really expecting a refund. They refunded the original purchase price and original shipping. They really seem to stand behind what they sell, especially if they tag it as their brand.

I finally found a nice Balaclava for my somewhat large melon. Those "one size fits all" ones are always way too tight on my 24&1/3" diameter head.
