Valley Spur

Any one ever CC skied Valley Spur near Munising ? Any other groomed or ungroomed trails up that way ? Looks like Nordic Skiing is going to require some travel outside of SE MI this winter.

I really enjoyed the McKeever Hills Ski Trail (more than Valley Spur, but I only did one loop at Valley Spur) which is a little south of Munising. I'd be curious about trying to ski Bruno's Run as well although I'm guessing it's better suited to snow shoeing.

Valley Spur is groomed and has a warming hut. I didn't do too much there, but it's worth hitting. Also in Munising is a trail in the Picture Rocks National Lakeshore. It has tremendous views of the big lake and Grand Island and is also groomed. I liked this one better than Valley Spur for the setting and wild feel. The name escapes me.

Thanks for the ideas ! I think Bruno's Run would be beautifull. It seems like you're always near a lake or stream.

That's why I love riding that trail, one of the most scenic in MI.

All the skiing up there is heavenly. Get up there if you can.

Don't overlook the Dunes Trail in Brevoort on the way up. That's considered a big winner, too, though I haven't been there -- many ski buffs recommend it.

McKeever Trail has a Nat'l Parks cabin on it, back in a mile. It has a woodstove and overlooks a lake. It's considered one of the choicest cabins in the state. It's where the park workers go. I think it's the only nat'l park cabin in the UP or something -- it's a rare bird. It gets booked up on weekends but is always worth checking out for vacancy.

There's also Tom's Lake Cabin which I stayed at a couple years ago. You have to drive to trails but it's not far and the cabin is wonderful. We had it close to 80 inside with the wood stove and had a delicious meal in our dutch oven. The closest trails to Tom's Lake seemed to be more snowmobile oriented but I'm sure you could find some quiet areas. I'll let you know about McKeever Cabin, booked it for a weekend coming up. I'm very curious where it's at as we I never saw it when we skied the McKeever Trail.
