cyclocross in the spring?

Postby 3d » December 2nd, 2011, 3:31 pm

is there any in michigan in the spring months, or is it just a fall thing?

I've just been doing a few races here and there for some marginally competitive fun, but trying to weigh the value of a $60 annual USAC license vs. the pay-as-i-go $10 day-of license 'program' for next year.

I just saw something about a CX race at Cannonsburg Feb 12th. Sorry don't have the details. Hoping one of the west siders chimes in here. Other than that, its a fall sport :(

Buy the License. It supports a lot of good stuff for the sport, and carries a lot of member benefits and discounts. Go to the USAC web site to find out more.

my 2 cents...

I agree with Chunky Dunker on the support part! As an active member of the planning committee, there is currently no USAC License requirement for Ralphs Winter Fest Cyclocross race but I personally hold and support the USAC so I say go for it!

On that note, there are two other cyclocross bike preferred races over here on the West Side in the Spring, the Barry Roubaix and the Lowell 50 which you may be interested in. Usually in February there is also a Farm Team Winter Cross race at the Versuluis Orchard but for those you would have to contact the promoters on requiring a USAC license or not.

Eric,

Could you post up a link (if any) on Ralph's Winterfest and the Lowell 50? That might help everyone following this thread. Thanks.

I was looking at the Lowell 50 site earlier today.

* http://www.thelowell50.com/

They had (and will have) a fall race too. I was thinking about going to the fall race back in Oct, but didn't have the money because Iceman was the following weekend. Hopefully the budget won't be as tight next year... but one never knows about the econ.

The spring race is the weekend after Barry-Roubaix. I am reg'd for the 61 at B-R. And as tempting as doing the Lowell 50 is, I'm just not sure yet whether I want (or can) do 2 long races in back to back weekends.

good point, might as well just pony up, i did 5 USAC races this year and the probability of doing 6 or more of any discipline next year is pretty high.

Also, if you buy a MTB or Road USAC License, they both cover cyclocross for FREE!

Sorry to be a little late on responding to a direct question.

We only have the FB Page up right now at:
http://www.facebook.com/RalphsWinterFest

In a few weeks we will have a web page created but if you have any questions feel free to ask on the FB Page or dm me.

Thanks,

I could throw a free CX at Dorias park in the Spring, if enough people were interested.

I was thinking of a one-off race. I have all the materials. We could do a standard race, then follow it by a relay.

When would be the best Date? Before or after barry Roubaix?

Yes. I think Before BRX would be good. Anything after will be getting into the Road and Mountain bike seasons. But Jan and Feb may be too cold to really enjoy it.

I did the relay format at the Big Bad Wolf CX race this year, that was some of the best CX fun I ever had.

Maybe you could do a one-off race and just have 3 man realy teams only... And then we could do brackets like the "final 4". The day would be about running heats and top 3 of the 4 teams in each heat advance to the next heat until you get down to the final 4 teams. Each heat or race would be 30 mins long or 1 lap per racer on a team.

I think if you want people to come out to this, it has to be completely different. My 2 cents...

But it sounds like it could be fun.
