You didn't go down today did you? Pavement is hard indeed. I've crashed plenty on both...

Sure did Steve, first crash on the road bike so far. My own stupid fault though. Came in way to hot into a left hander on a wooden bridge that had a nice little coating of ice still on it. Can't believe I didn't break anything, legs are already turning black, blue and lumpy in a few spots. Bent front wheel and both shifters were bent inward. Oh well, you live in learn. Where are we riding on Saturday?

Ouch. While I know that MTB crashes can be bad, most of the time one lands on dirt / brush / something kinda soft and maybe a little pointy. With road biking speeds and all the pavement involved even just washing out your wheels on a road bike (a not uncommon thing on an MTB) could result in a big loss of skin.

It was icy this morning for sure. I felt my commuter tires slip just a little once on the way in, and thought I got off easy, but when I stopped at the bike rack outside my building and put my foot down, it slipped and I almost fell over! Better traction from my Panaracers than my Adidas.

FWIW, most crashes are the fault of the nut holding the handlebars. Broke my collarbone that way. And my thumb.

You probably just slipped the levers around on their clamps. If you can't figure out how to loosen them, check the owners manual or online or I'd be glad to take a look. You might be able to just shove them back where they belong without loosening them, too. The front wheel, well, better take that to the shop unless you're better at truing than I am!

I'm game if you want to get out early saturday and beat the rain!

Got it all taken care of, had no choice but to fix it on the spot considering I was still 15 miles away from home. The wheel will have to go into the shop though. I'll PM ya about Saturday Steve, still have to get hold of a few other people and set something up. Thinking if we get out by 10:00 we should be good to go.

Yeah, the River Trail can be pretty dangerous, especially on skinny tires!

No kidding. Next time I try to take on the mighty River Trail I am going to borrow the SF 100!

By far the most painful crash I've had on a bicycle was on the asphalt this summer.
If I never do it again it will be to soon. You end up black, blue and then yellow all over.
Not to mention the lovely road rash. It gave me a new found respect for the guys
in the tour who crash hard and get back up and finish.

Speaking of road rash. This after I cleaned all the dirt, gravel and asphalt out of my elbow.

My worst crash was at.... METRO BEACH. Unbelievable. Of all places.
Road bike skinny tires + wet boardwalk + speed = pain. This was in September. Hip still hurts and sports a nasty bruise still.

I thought bikes weren't permitted on the boardwalk? ;)

I think so at least. I thought there were signs saying that at the entrances to the boardwalk.

Never seen that. Hmm. Never been bothered by the park cops there. They sure like to bother me when it's even remotely close to closing time.
