Trail was in great shape today. Lots of leaves on the trail (of course) making it slippery in spots, but overall very good. Combined with the weather, it was a great day to ride.
I'm just here to ride...

Maybe I'm a little behind, but nice job on the trail map... I don't remember there being one posted on this site in the past!

Crunchy and fast (the trail, not me) this morning. My first ride in the dark, my first ride in the early AM (~0600 start), and my first ride on snow. Pretty cool. Thanks to utabintarbo for posting up the geomangear link in another thread - the light worked quite well.

Watch out for the sun thawed areas, a bit greasy. Otherwise it was great. Happy Holidays to all 8) .

rode at 9pm last night.. should have waited a couple more hours.. most of the trail was crunchy, but the north west corner was awfully slick until you hit the camp dearborn border..

I am SO glad that I decided to head out to this trail today, I had an awesome snow ride ! Perfect conditions and snow falling as I rode.

There is an inch or so of nice (no ice) traction filled crunchy snow on most of the trail surface and it made for a really enjoyable loop today.
It was just thick enough for great traction (should I say more than regular dirt ?) but thin enough so that you are still in contact with the dirt.
I was going just slightly slower than I would on a summer day. I was following just one set of tire tracks from someone that had just had the
same experience as me a little earlier. Didn't see any other beings the whole time between 11:30 and 12:30, not even any animals.

SC 8)
I love mountain biking because I haven't found anything that is more FUN !!
Of all the paths you choose in life....make sure some of them are DIRT !!

Commuting miles in 2012 = 1065
Total road/trail miles = 2800
Number of rides = 152
Trails ridden = 28 different in MI, 2 in Oregon

Trail was in great shape today, thankfully this trail didn't get the same hack job ILRA and Maybury received. Saw a few frozen ruts, but nothing serious.

Few inches of mostly unpacked snow down this morning. Made things pretty tiring. Otherwise, pretty good shape.

Missed you by a few hours, I rode at 5:30. was dark by the time we were done, but with the snow and so much ambient light it wasn't too dark.
lots of fun spinning in the snow. That what yankee springs must feel like after 2 weeks of no rain.

Looks like I'm going to be the first to ask the question this year so I'll throw it out there. When would the Milford Trail be in "rideable" condition? I'm assuming with the complete lack of snow that is should be much sooner than in previous years but I'd figure I'll ask.

mwilson7-
In my opinion, the section from the dam to the trail-head will be ready first, perhaps sooner than we expect. You can loop back on the pavement. From the trail-head to "refrigerator hill" will have a few bad spots. Unfortunately it will take a while for the low section by Commerce Road and the loop by the golf course to get into shape. Two years ago Milford was ready really early (like the 3rd week of March). Last year, not really until April. Lets hope with the mild winter we can get out sooner than later. Being that the Hick also dries out amazingly early, a Milford/ Hickory Glen loop in the second half of March will not be surprising.
