Pre-ride, post-ride music

Postby john_galt » August 20th, 2011, 11:03 am

Just got back from a ride and realized I have a pre-ride, post-ride music ritual. I think it would be fun to hear what music my MI MTB peeps listen to.

I'll kick it off:

Pre-ride:
Misfits (Danzig era mix tape)

Post-ride:
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Howl"

pre ride:
50s- jumpin' jivin' rock'n roll boogie woogie
60s -garage punk psychedelic proto metal
70s- glam, punk rock, Stones, Zep
80s- post-punk, hardcore, alternative, grunge and bands that begin with the letter M...Megadeth, Metallica, Misfits and MotorHead
90s to current- any bands that sound like a mix of any of the above.

post ride:
Alt-country, Americana, folk rock, neo-psyhcedelic

Hmm, I see a pattern. Get hyped up pre-ride tunage and chill, post ride sounds.
I'm not a comlete idiot, some parts are missing.

Depends on what I'm riding. Generally, something a bit metal or punk pre-ride - Deftones, Pantera, Misfits, maybe even a little Nirvana or grunge.

If I'm riding downhill, freeride sessions, or dirt jumps I'm usually jamming some hardcore pop between runs - Death From Above 1979, Fischerspooner, Klaxxons, and maybe a few metal tracks here and there (White Zombie is a favorite.)

Post ride music is all over the place... often post ride I work on producing my own tracks with a couple beers. I tend to be euphoric at that point and my music stays a bit happier. If I'm on a car trip home from a ride, I'm often trying to relax with some indie or more weird pop music.

Pre ride is usually some Black Sabbath or Old Metallica (pre black album)
Post ride is usually some mellow classic rock or country.

Post ride- I bump back to the homestead to some Jack Johnson or Miles Davis

Cant go wrong with some lil wayne and eminem....thinking about picking up Life Cycles. Is this something you watch repeatedly and I should buy? Or is it a one time type of movie and I would be better off renting/borrowing it?

I like your style! :)

(Though I'm kinda over Godsmack, and would likely substitute Tool).

Tool would also be acceptable post ride. I would also add in Five Finger Death Punch, and possibly Lamb Of God, although that might be a bit much. :)

Not too shabby; try some Spirit Caravan, older Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity and older Down for your pre-ride. If you want a bit faster pace, High on Fire and Mastodon are top notch. Also, the needle can drop pretty much anywhere on Rust in Peace and it's good to go.
