Select logging is actually really good for the remaining forest/woods. If the money raised with the sale helps with the offseason daily operations of the ski area and keeps the area open to riding, I'm all for it. It's too bad that the trails have to suffer the carnage from the heavy equipment used to log the that area.
The biggest problem I have with logging is the fact that it lets in more light to the forest floor which equals more under brush which equals more trail maintenance.
I've seen it happen in OH and KY.
But it all depends on how "selective" it is. Create a big hole in the canopy and you get underbrush. If it is really selective then it might not make much diff because the trees will fill in. Especially Maples. Those are like weeds here in MI.
We're still lucky to be able to ride there at no cost and the terrian won't really change anyway.
