Five Ten (5.10) Shoes

Postby mtbfree » March 16th, 2011, 10:58 am

Anybody know of a store in SE Michigan that sells 5.10 freeride shoes? I know of a few places that sell their climbing shoes, but I want someplace I can try on a pair of their freeride bike shoes without having to special order them. Thanks.

well,
I went through that. There is no place in SEMI that carries them. The only store in MI that carries 5.10 is planet rock, and they only have the guide tennie, which is sweet, but a little lighter than I would want in a freeride shoe. I have a set of line kings and a set of chases. I had freeriders as my previous shoe. In terms of fit, the chase is like a patagonia trail shoe. I am a true 10 and they are very snug on the toe, and fine everywhere else. With a superfoot footbed they are perfect. I have an average width foot with no protrusions or funny stuff. THe freerider and line king are wide. They are awesome on platforms, nothing else like it. The freerider runs smaller than the line king. A 10 lineking is perfect, 10.5 is huge. I also wear a 10 freerider, but needed break in and a footbed for it to be big enough. So, if you are worried about size, maybe go up the half size in the chase, which is a sweet all around kick, either way works on the freerider, and if you are normally between half sizes go with the lower of the two on the line king. I had to order and return a bunch of shoes to figure this all out.

Hey, thanks for the info, Hunter. I didn't want to have to deal with shipping shoes back and forth repeatedly, so I'll be glad to make use of your sizing recommendations. Did you order direct from 5.10, or is there a better online retailer?

They sell em at Ray's MTB Park. Moosejaw is a Michigan company that is a retailer for em, free shipping too - you could probably have the Michigan retail store order em, and let you try them on in the store. I think Zappos.com has free return shipping if you don't like em, but they do charge a bit more than the cheapest online retailers. I can't remember who I ordered em from but I found the most inexpensive online retailer on sale for about $79 - a real steal! I'd say 95 bux is more like it. However, if you're a 10.5 like me, you can get the high-top 'Rennie' version for $63 bux here : http://www.6pm.com/five-ten-impact-nathan-rennie-2-black-red

I have two pair of em though. The first generation version and the second generations version. Both fit true to size. No mysteries here. The soles on the 2nd gen. version are a bit stiffer and the tongue is padded a bit better, and the smooth exterior finish does not hold dust like the original's suede surface did.

Very comfy shoe that you'll want to wear all the time, not just for biking.

I ordered from both zappos and moosejaw. Moosejaw ended up being a bit of a pain. Zappos was sweet. when I got a size that was too big, I called them and they mailed out the new pair, free shipping, so I could try both of them on at the same time. They sent me a return label and I had two weeks to send the other pair back.

Hunter- How do you like the Chases for MTB? Was fairly set on the Freeriders, but having a hard time finding a style I like in my size. The chases are on Zappo's right now, though.

really depends on the pedals and kind of riding. For park and street, they are not my favorite but do just fine. For trail and dh, with a deeper pinned pedal, they are killer! really stiff sole, and great tread for pushing and hiking around. Akrigg wears them in his new video, "a hill in spain" which you need to watch right now if you have not already. Anyway, for park and DH I prefer the sole on the freeriders and linekings, but for an everyday kick that rides really well, the chase can't be beat. With a wider/ big pin pedal, they are killer!

Just don't get the orange black ones, then we would be toooo cute.

Seen the video... that's about all the convincing I needed, haha. Think I'm gonna order them tonight. And don't worry... I'm getting the brown ones so we won't match
