Postby PieterHemmo » May 4th, 2013, 10:11 am

Does anyone know what is up with all the blue paint along the TK trail? Are there plans to log the area?

Yes. Cass County Parks department has contracted to log mainly ash trees from the Mountain Bike trail section. The logging will occur the winter of 2013/2014. We are hoping for a cold winter so the trail does not get ripped up...

Anywhere that we could voice our opposition to this plan?

There was a signed contract before NIMBA found out about it. The contract calls for logging in both the mountain bike area and the rest of the park. The loggers actually could have started logging last winter. The parks department has logged the area before, the last time was after the tornado. The parks department indicated that they are trying to be proactive about the emerald ash borer by taking the ash trees out with this contract... NIMBA will be saving some money for repairs next spring in case we need to rent some equipment to help "fix" the trail...

one positive note??.....The loggers are also supposed to perform thorn eradication.
