Brad, you were going the correct direction by staying to the right and up the hill when you get to the fields. The worn in path you see to the left is the original path we have used for the last few years before we connected to the little singletrack section below the soccer field. We used various combinations for the short track races and will probably mix it up some for the winter races as well.

Other than the fields, the rest of the trail is pretty easy to follow from the end of the soccer field. Just follow the worn path and the cleared singletrack.

The school has started to clear some of the snow on the race course for winter riding but there is not a complete loop yet. They plan on trying to maintain it when possible through the Feb 5 race.

Some of the sections of singletrack are ridable for short stretches. The plowed path will allow a loop out in the open areas through the field and by the ball fields and pond. I was able to ride up the hill by the soccer field and down the sledding hill without a problem. If you hadn't seen the post in the race forum here is a shot of a section of plowed path from last week.

Some of the singletrack is cleared along with some other trail options. The pending thaw and refreeze should make the trails in better shape for riding.

Great conditions at LOHS this morning. Trails are snow and ice free with the surface more like concrete. A few small trees that are in the way but can be ridden around or over for now. I will probably get to them tomorrow.

I removed the downed trees and hanging limbs. The trail should be good to go.

The school has cleared a path that will be used for the races on January 22 and February 5. The total distance is about 4 miles but includes three sections of singletrack.

Tried riding it today. Most parts were okay but some were covered by fresh snow.

The school is planning on plowing or taking the snowmobile drag out on some of the trails either tomorrow or Wednesday. They will be doing periodic clearing up to the race on Feb 5 and if lucky, until the 18th if we can reschedule the night race.

95% of the course is OK, including the singletrack. Drifting and deeper snow by the ball fields and volleyball court had me off the bike. The school will probably be making another pass around the course tomorrow. Bald Mountain is in great shape. If you want a tour of the winter course, meet by the tennis courts at 6:30 on Thursday, the 27th.

The school has started to clear the course this afternoon and it might be mostly ridable tomorrow. Some areas may never get cleared due to drifting, and in fact the singletrack may be the best riding.

A photo after one pass with the snowmobile and drag. it's almost down to the frozen ground.

The race portion of the trail is in great shape. The school has done a fantastic job clearing the course, including a couple sections of singletrack.

The school has gone through and "graded" the trails again. I did two laps this afternoon and rode 98%. Just the usual trouble spots, the hills leading to the sledding hill and the spot by the volleyball court that drifts over. If you want to get off the rollers and roads, head on up to Lake Orion High. The trails are open for riding and the schools will try to keep them that way leading up to the race.

The school trails are super fast right now, almost like riding on dirt. Hit them up early before they get too soft.

Steve, any chance of adding an entry to the trail guide for LOHS? A map or description of where to park, where to find the trailhead, length of trail, etc. would be great.

I'd like to check it out, but I don't want to be that creepy guy wandering around the high school in tight pants looking lost.

Thanks!
