Recommend a crankset

Postby ColorVoyeur » October 20th, 2010, 11:20 am

So, after fighting a busted up ankle/leg, I finally got back to riding some street a couple weeks ago. Took a nice little booter in town and ended up landing pretty nasty, and ripping my pedal out of my crank arm.

My bottom bracket was already showing some wear, so I'm hunting for a replacement.

Single speed Azonic Steelhead, I think it's a 68mm shell. I'm trying to decide between an external BB MTB crankset, and a BMX crankset.
Do a mix of downhill, park, and DJ.
I was running an Azonic Nitro with a 38t ring. Would like to go smaller for clearance.
Tight on cash, so not trying to break the bank with this.

What is going to hold up best?
Thanks guys

Look at Atomlab (www.atomlab.com) or Deity. Both make tough BMX style cranksets that would suit your needs.

profile is, imho the standard to which other cranks are held. They are a pita to mount and adjust though. In terms of mtn cranksets, try and pick up an older set of shimano saints. The shimano interface is really well thought out and you can pull your cranks with nothing but a 5mm allen. Really nice all the way through. A set of deore cranks works well on a budget too.

Actually, just started noticing the Saint. Looking like a good choice, and they're not insanely expensive.
Thanks guys.
