NMMBA: Hanson Hills

For posting trail-specific conditions and problems

Re: Northern: Hanson Hills

Hey all you single track lovers!! Hanson Hills is open and the trails are in great shape. We had some windfall debris last week, but thanks to a great bunch of local trail crew volunteers the trails are for the most part clear. There are a great deal of leaves covering the trails.. "New Outer" loop, still needs a little TLC, but is totally rideable and enjoyable. I will be posting as often as I can on the MMBA Forum, but will more often be posting trail condions and events on www.hansonhills.org. GET OUT and RIDE...

Northern: VASA & Hanson Hills

Postby Darkside » May 11th, 2009, 12:12 pm

Just curious why the VASA and Hanson Hills trail conditions are listed as "Avoid". The VASA is bone dry, not a single muddy area as of Friday. Hanson had an area maybe 3 feet long of firm mud - but it was on the two tracks at the beginnning. Other than that the trail was good as of Sunday.

Be VERY careful, there is an archery course set up along the trail.

Rode here for the first time on Thurs and Fri, lots of fun. The "old" outer loop was great, nothing down, very little sand and that last half mile or so behind and around the ski hill has got to be one of the most fun in the state. Went back on Friday and rode the "new" outer loop, still a little soft (compared to the other trails) from lack of use and plenty of small sticks over it but it has some very fun parts, really like the valley where you go up and down the sides two or three times. I also like the view you get near the road in the last mile.

Trail is completly rideable. Race loop is cleared of all fallen trees. Outter loop has a few downed trees, they should be out soon. Hard packed and fast! Get out and enjoy.

Hanson Hills is about 20 miles away from the file. All roads around Hanson Hills are open, no road blocks.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

anyone know a good trail to ride in metro north that is comparable to hanson hills. I rode it once about 2 years ago and didn't do any single track. I was thinking north unit of bald mountain is pretty similar. any ideas?

I'd say Addison Oaks. I've only ridden Hanson once, but I remember it being fairly accessible with good site lines and fast sweeping curves, but with a few good climbs and downhills.

Bald Mountain is more fast wide trails with occasional sand and rocks and roots.

Better yet, do one than the other. They are only a mile and a half or so apart.
