Trails able to be ridden?

Good pictures. I was out on a back road ride today near Bald Mountain and there was a Sheriffs car blocking one road, Kern, because it was so bad, a van had gotten stuck in the middle of it and abandoned while waiting for help. I was able to ride through it but the ruts on this road had to be 8-12 inches deep in spots.

...I live off of King road [it's dirt past telegraph] in Brownstown, and it has been shut down. I had to use 4 wheel drive to get out of it the other day.

There are ruts beyond 18-24" deep. WOW. Deep and wide. Speed and luck got me out. It sucked a few cars into the soft shoulders. They didn't make it out!!

SPRING...just got to love it!

Does the "don't ride the trails until you see a worm" rule still hold true if you see a robin pluck one out of the ground? Saw it today from my desk.

Oh well...I'll be riding in Arizona on Saturday. :D

Hey SheGT - you saw a Robin pluck a worm from the trail while sitting at your desk? Since when are you that close to the trail?!

Hey WICCMB-

The robin was on the grass outside of my office. But I do work across the street from ILRA, so I'm practically close enough. :D

See you in Sedona! 8)

Shanman and I rode 25 miles of pavement around ILRA and Kensington. Beautiful day! Looking forward to ripe trails!

Thanks for the photo updates. It really brings home the message that the dirt trails are in no shape for riding. Those tracks look fresh though, looks like a few of us couldn't wait :(

I took a walk over to some of PLRA's trails last night and they are still incredibly mushy. Much too soft and wet for even walking on them. I just walked in a few feet off the road on the grassy sides to see, but they're still a real mess. The snow however appears to be completely gone.

When I was walking back home though, I noticed that an off road motorcycle had ripped through one of the trails (not a bike trail though) and exited onto a dirt road. There were huge gashes left in the mud by the motorcycle. That's pretty messed up and incredibly irresponsible considering that motorized dirt vehicles aren't even allowed access there.

Maybury report...

Postby Sherpaboy » March 21st, 2003, 1:09 pm

I did a dirt road- paced road and path ride yesterday (3/20) the dirt roads were dry but soft...felt like i had 2 flat tires at some points. I went through Maybury as well and checked on the signage at the trail heads. Looks like someone couldn't read too well at the main trail head (only 1 se tof tracks so it wasn't too bad). THe other end the DNR shoudl really get their act togehter. As the path crosses the paved path there were NO snowfence ro blockages at these trails. The signage that says the trail is closed was on the wrong side of the post..and missing from the opposite side all together.

Another problem...which I hope I handled ok is a re-occuring bandit trail that leads up a small incline from the paved path (heading towards the lake), that was there last year as well. i blocked it as best as i could using the deadfall. not too much longer and we won't have to worry about this stuff for another season.

The heavy rain brought out the worms last night, as evidenced by their carcasses on the sidewalk. We may make that mid-April opening date yet! :D
