Rode it the first time today. Pretty cool trail. Fairly twisty with no walls to climb so beginner to intermediates might enjoy this one. The roller coaster bridges are fun. Looking forward to doing this one again. Oh, and well marked which I always appreciate. Thanks!

Knocked down the spiderwebs yesterday afternoon. I really enjoyed this trail. Huge bonus for being so well marked. It adds to the fun when there's zero question of where the trail exists. It has a few technical sections that really kept me on my toes! Specifically a tight, uphill turn with an angled log and no speed to carry into it. I was proud to get past it. The bridges by the lake with the hills between was really fun too. I didn't see any areas that will be killed when it rains. Oh...to be a 12 yr. old on a bike in Milford these days...

When the time comes for a trail day, this place will benefit huge! The trash removal will be an instant aesthetic improvement, and getting some tires rolling should speed it up.

Trailhead/driving directions were spot on, which is alway appreciated, too! Get there early, cause only one parking spot is in the afternoon shade!

Hey Bill..Now you need to take a road grader to those bumps in that "back nine" field there!  I rode the trail Saturday and tonight. It's good to see how little damage the storm of Friday evening did. Trail's as good as ever and dry as a bone. I did take some time to clear a little windfall here and there as I rode on Saturday. Tonight I left sprocket marks in the new log pile along the fenceline by the golf course. I've been wondering when one would appear. Your work? Not quite the challenge of the other log hop, but still a good addition to an always fun trail.

Rode Milford yesterday afternoon on the new bike (17" Rockhopper). About 1/4 mile in (before the split), there is a decent sized stump on the left side of the trail. I saw it, and registered it in my mind. Unfortunately, I didn't do anything to avoid it. I drove my left pedal into the stump, and proceeded to perform a class A endo. I held onto the handlebars and ended up on my back with my feet still on the pedals  . I have not yet upgraded to clipless, so I was amazed that I was still basically in a riding position. Apparently, as I learned, an endo happens really fast. Thank goodness I had my camelbak on to absorb some of the impact.

In other, more pertinent news, the trail was in great shape. Amazing how much more approachable a trail is with decent equipment. Unfortunately, as a result of the crash, I don't know how much hard riding I will be able to do until I upgrade to clipless (about 1 week or so).

I really like this trail. But, it seems that every time I ride it something gets damaged (me or the bike). I chalk it up to operator error. Someday I will get through it clean.
That which does not kill me ... makes me walk funny

how to haul out illegal trash?

Postby bheldke » September 12th, 2007, 3:25 pm

rode for the first time last night--beautiful trail. I wish there was a way to haul out all those illegally dumped tires and refrigerators as they detract from the otherwise beautiful trail.

I suppose we could haul the tires out one by one--would there be a local Milford tire shop that would volunteer to take them and the scrap steel to help out the trail?

In the spring a new paved path will be going throw the park. At that time we will be able to get a dumpster back there.

As a rider who lives in the Village of Milford I have always felt pretty lucky when it comes to mountain biking. Right out my front door I have had Island Lake (before it became the land of ten thousand bike shorts), Proud Lake and of course Highland.
Then one day when I was riding through my favorite "out of bounds" area down by the river I noticed that someone had built a trail, a mountain biking trail! Holy @#$?! I thought, this is great! Since I had always started my river rides by the YMCA it took me awhile to find the actual trailhead but other than that the trail is very easy to follow, some nice elevation gain/drop, terrain features, etc. The only bad thing about the trail is that now I have to find another favorite "out of bounds" area to ride in.
I'm interested to know the route of the planned paved trail from the Village to Kensington, any chance of a MTB trail "shadowing" the paved trail? Also, if you need any help with trail work I am pretty handy with dipple, rake, hoe, chainsaw...just let me know and once again thanks for putting up a great trail, its been a joy to ride this summer!

The paved bike path will be installed on the old walking path that runs from the Water Damm to the east side of the YMCA.
I tryed to layed the Mt. Bike trail with minimum crossings. It will cross the paved path 4 times.
I only had 150 acres to work with.

That path cuts right through the middle of the park down by the river, there is no way that you could lay out any kind of good trail without it crossing the paved path. Will the paved path end at the Dam or will it cross over the river and continue to Kensington? That is where I am thinking that a new single track could be laid down, I believe the Metro Park owns the property along the river (south of GM road)?

Great job on the trail. Looking forward on your new projects.
I got the ultimate upgrade. A cow-valve from the Cleveland Clinc. $26'000. Installation not included.

Hey there - thanks for establishing a fun trail for those of us in the Milford/Comerce area. I've ridden it three times now and each time the conditions are getting better. Fun, tight, roller coaster of a ride - with some really nice views of the Huron River and Dam section.

Again, thanks for the trail Bill......

Trail is in great shape and is maturing quickly. You can tell it's been ridden a lot more this summer, it rolls faster and is really starting to get packed down. Bill created a fun little trail that's only getting better.

Milford Rocks!

Postby KokoRider » November 5th, 2007, 10:49 pm

Rode Milford Sunday monring for the first time since that snowy, mid-winter race organized by Builder Bill. I forgot just how fun it is! It sure rides longer than the advertised 5 miles. Took me as long to navigate this trail as a 10-mile loop at PLRA takes!

Love all those off-camber twisty turns and short climbs :P Real easy to catch the back roads and trail system to Proud Lake and Hickory Glenn for a fun epic
Save the trails at Proud Lake!
