Dirt Rag to visit Annual Meeting!

Postby mkow1234 » January 21st, 2003, 1:31 pm

Hello everybody.

I just finished speaking with my contact at Dirt Rag, and they are seriously considering driving out to Michigan for the Annual Meeting!

A few members of the Dirt Rag crew are tentatively planning to make a quickie visit, to check out the Michigan biking scene and possibly ride one or two trails. We have also discussed having a DR vendor booth at the Show (No speech-giving, however). * The main thing to note is that DR guys will likely publish a piece on the MMBA (for either their magazine or their website), and this will bring additional national and regional attention to mountain biking advocacy in Michigan.

There is still some work to be done to welcome these ambassadors.
We need to make arrangements for hotel accomodations, decide what trail(s) to show them, etc. I think this could potentially turn out to be a great PR move for the MMBA.

PS They have already sent me 750 DR magazines, patches, stickers, to give out at the show.

Speaking of the annual meeting, we have Cris Santos sceduled to do a trials demo as one of the pieces of entertainment for the afternoon.

For those of you who do not know, Chris Santos is a 3 time national champion for trials in Brazil, the #2 rider in the USA, and currently resides in Walled Lake.

We need some assistance to make this happen, though.

If anybody is willing to help out we need a trailer to haul the Demo equipment from Walled Lake to the annual meeting and also to return it to walled lake that evening.

Unfortunately, Brisa will not have taken delivery of thier trailer until some time after the meeting, thus we are requesting assistance.

If anybody can help in regards to this please email me at dalemurray@comcast.net

Well the "Blizzard Blaster" would be an obvious stop for the Dirt Rag "world tour". We always need celeb. victims, er, I mean, guests.

MMBA Annual Meeting

Postby thejode » January 22nd, 2003, 12:27 am

Matt: It would be great if those guys could ride the Blizzard Blaster Ride that morning. Please try to get them there. It would be so much fun for all the participants. I'll provide the toe warmers if they need them.

Littlebike: I would love it if Cris could come. I know we can get somebody to help with the transportation. If nobody steps up in the next couple days, let me know. cafepost@comcast.net I know I can borrow a truck to get it done. He was awesome at the BBBB. :)

Thanks for much.

Jody.

They planned to be there for the blizzard ride! :O)

Hi Jody:

They said they planned to do the blizzard ride on Sunday morning, prior to attending the Show. They were also hoping to sample even a small portion of other singletrack on Saturday, if possible (maybe Stoney Creek or Novi Tree Farm, depending on time constraints and weather, or how they feel after making the 5-hour drive).

Do you live relatively close to PLRA?
What would be a good hotel recommendation (close to PLRA) for the DR guys?

Try the Best Western Concorde Inn in Waterford

about 2 miles from PLRA..

That's cool...

hope they make it. I of course would like to see those guys out at Novi on Saturday before...maybe we could talk them into adding a blurb about the tree farm re-birth. Especially with all the hard work all the volunteers put in last season. It may not be the best or most technical trail, but it does represent a lot of what the MMBA does and stands for.

I in no way want to take away from them writing an article about the MMBA and our annual expo though. Just food for thought...

any word on other exhibitors who will be there?

I second the Novi Tree Farm! The major overhaul and refit the MMBA did to that park is a good example of what can be done with a small park. Riders, an association and a city working together.

Stony Creek is also a good choice, probably a good example of a typical Michigan park.

I just finished emailing the Dirt Rag crew and reminding them that they have written two articles chronicling the saga of the Tree Farm and that it would be awesome if they could check out "the trail that would not die" We shall see.....

Yeah "skot", about time you got rid of that silly board name you been using. BTW that avatar Sherpa's using might have something to do with last tue.'s "X-file" experience at the Pharm. He wasn't there either, hmm...

no, I didnt have to re-register, but Todd S. had to do some monkeywrenching to get me back on the board. He even animated my avitar logo - I will be incorporating that later......it's nuts

Dan, how did you ever figure that out? Dang!

I just got an email from Joel K, from Dirt Rag. He and his girl are game for riding the Tree Farm on Saturday. I just have to iron out the details later. How cool is that? More later....
