The Hick... that's a great nickname for the trail! :D 8)

The Novi Tuesday night ride will probably be moving to Commerce this week. 6:30 meeting time, 6:45 ride time!

Please, the trail is WAY too close to Walltucky to have the nickname "Hick". That nickname is already taken by some of my neighbors!

Tim and I spent a few hours out there today raking. I'm going to be riding tomorrow. I'm not sure on the time yet.

I just PM'd Dave(WallEyed) about this, so hopefully he'll clarify this about what time Novi nights ride will be.

On the ride announcement link there's a post about tonight's ride set for 6:30 at Commerce.

The ride is at 6:30, I'll try to figure out why the calendar is wrong!

WOW! trail is looking just as good as summer.. Nice Raking!!
Only prob i found was the drop-off at the small trials area .. my friend almost bit it bad.. luckily just his seat got messed.. but i put up some sticks to block that drop off.

The 4x4 at the end is cut on a 45 and was only pounded in maybe 4 in. I think this should come down or definetly needs to be resecured.

edited non exxagerated(SP) version.. lol

Thanks for the feedback - will take a look at it. Thanks for blocking it off as well.

I rode a quick lap tonight and the trail is in GREAT condition. There is only the one usual soft spot "down by the river".

Rode last night...
There were a few face slappers and small stuff that needs clearing. There was also a pretty large pile of pungee sticks near the beginning and a few "leaners"/downed trees that are navigable but should probably be removed before they fall. The trail is in good shape otherwise and very dry... only 1 puddle.

Trail is in good shape, be sure to ride the new section and the re-route that was cut this past weekend!

Where we bench cut, it rode smoothly, albeit soft. Where we didn't, well I had to ride with one foot down to prevent sliding down the side of the hill. We can wait to see how the treads will compact after it's been ridden, but my guess is we'll be back out to do some more work on those sections.

Great job to everyone who came out for the trail class/day.
Lay off your brakes, they're only slowing you down!

I did a few laps on each new section tonight.. agree that the non-bench cut runs will need some attention soon.. the bench cuts are great and each has its own character 8) 8)

Thanks again to Dan and Shannon and all the grads!

Commerce Trail School: Wrapup

Postby Dan_Harrison » May 17th, 2005, 10:14 am

Thanks Tim and Shannon, for putting on an excellent clinic. We got a lot done, but there's clearly more to do. It'll be interesting to see how the new section develops.

To all the attendees: Please send me a PM with the following information:
- Your NAME as you want it to appear on your Crew Chief certificate;
- Your EMAIL address so I can add you to the Trail School mailing list;
- Your MMBA Forum name (e.g., "Spinwheel") so I can add you to the Trail Building School Forum usergroup.

Congratulations on a job well done! And thank you, Mother Nature, for not washing us out :D

Help pack the new section!

Postby Spinwheel » May 25th, 2005, 3:28 pm

More benchcuts of various widths have been added to help make the new section navigate better.. If you'd like to help pack the new trail but are unsure where it is located, please see the revised map in the TRAIL GUIDE section of this website. (listed under "Hickory Glen")

The re-route across from the football field will also be refined at the mound-ride-over as the turns there turned out to be too sharp.

Enjoy,

Tim

This trail

Postby Rzygai » June 8th, 2005, 10:07 am

Is this place intended to be a hideout?

I drove around for well over an hour looking for this god foresaken trail and still never found it. I would advise anyone going out here to print as many directions as you can find off this site. Print the map. Twice. You are going to need it. I even asked a park ranger and she gave me directions to a trailhead (that I never found).

Thank goodness Maybury is close!
