Our ongoing partnership with the Student Conservation Association's (SCA) Detroit Conservation Leadership Corps just concluded its third season. The SCA hires high school students for paid summer jobs where they learn about conservation, leadership development, urban forestry and community farming, job skills and trail work, among others. The MCMBA coordinates with the SCA on summer trail improvement projects for the Rouge Park Trail. This summer the crews cleaned up and added new fallen timber benches to the trailhead, added beautiful wood-burned arrow signs to several spots on the trail including adding some new sign posts, re-veg'd and duffed old lines and ambiguous open sections, improved entrances and exits, and finally on Wednesday August 15, worked with Jason and Chris (with earlier help from Jarrett, Tony and guidance from Loren) to complete Phase One of the trail kiosk. Photos and more information to come.
