Maybury-Novi connector grant support

Postby Loren » March 21st, 2012, 9:16 am

The City of Novi is applying for a Trust Fund grant to help pay for the construction of an asphalt trail through the ITC Community Sports Park at 8 Mile and Napier Road. This project will include a trailhead at the south end of the park and a protected road crossing at Eight Mile Road. The City is working with the DNR to create a connection from the crossing at 8 Mile into Maybury State Park.

The future plans for the trail also include extending the paved trail north and east along the ITC transmission corridor across the west side of the city and eventually to the Airline trail in the Walled Lake/Wixom area and through Maybury to trails in Northville Township. The long-term vision is a huge bikeable loop that includes the M-5 and I-275 Metro Trails to the east, the Airline Trail to the north, the Novi trail to the west and a trail through Northville Township, including Hines Park, on the south.

Novi is seeking letters of support for this project. If you like the sound of this plan and would be willing to send a short (or long) e-mail of support for the city's grant proposal, it would be much appreciated. You don't have to be a city resident to write in support, just be willing to say why you think this is a good idea and how you could see this benefiting you or city residents or those in the area who would use the trail. E-mails of support should go to Scott Pratt ( and reference the ITC Community Sports Park Trail grant. Please include your name and address at the end of the e-mail.
