Ride tonight?

What'd be the best bet around Lansing for a trail ride tonight, mud-wise? Is Rose Lake pretty dry?

Rose Lake is dry except for the mud hole by the walking bridge. The cordaroy bridge is all torn up too. As of a few weeks ago. I freakin endo'd there last time out. Horses messed it up good. I'm already sick of it for the year. Is Burchfield open yet?

Thanks, Frank--ended up doing some dirt road bombing up by Dewitt with an out of towner. It was fun. I'm with you--hoping Burchfield drains pretty soon! Once or twice at Rose Lake each season is usually enough for me, too, though if you promise to show me that endo style, I might be up for a lap. It's a good place to shake down a new bike and I have a single speed that I'm itching to try out!

I rode Rose Lake yesterday before the rain and it was iffy at best , it is starting to get grown over in spots . I almost bit it at the same place as Frank . There are some deep hoof prints in areas and generally making the trail rough even with FS, plus alot of dogs off leashes . I would rather ride gravel roads or my little trail in Owosso if it quits raining , than this trail anymore this year .

Hey, Bob--thanks for the trail report. This weather sucks! I got up this morning planning to mtb, figured the trails would be too wet, geared up for a road ride, stepped out into 20+ mph winds and rain, and decided to see what was on tv...

Rode Birch a couple days ago...nasty. ended up spending the next day tearing my bike down and cleanng it. And the skeeters are thick...if'n you go skip Hanson's beebop, go straight to entry by the Deer run picnic area, and at least it's rideable in there. I didn't even try swamp thing. I don't remember it being this wet in a long time. :x

We rode Ionia. West loop fine, save for a branch down on the way out, on one of the little switch ups so you don't see the branches pointing straight into your face till it's almost too late.
East loop is fine, and counter clockwise~! Thats a first for me. And the muddy area dew north of the lot is just greasy at worst. Good little ride. Beginning to overgrow. ON the east loop I plucked 2 ticks off my leg. I won't go back without spray. 44 minute drive from DeWitt exit to trailhead going 5mph under the limit.

Yeah, Geardaddy, half the trails at Burchfield are in the river's flood plain. Nice, stinky swamp mud! Not fun when it's wet.

Glad you got over to Ionia, Frank! I hit Yankee Springs yesterday--it was good.
