I use my crosscheck for touring, both single-day rides and loaded touring. I haven't used a front rack yet, but it handles gear well. I chose the crosscheck over the touring-centric long haul trucker because the CC has a shorter wheel base.

I also use it to commute. It can handle some pretty beefy tires, and when I throw road wheels and tires on it it's fairly speedy.
