Red neck mountain biking

Postby cdsdave » October 21st, 2009, 12:12 am

I have found a great use for my brand new stumpjumper and Seca light. Searching out and eliminating destructive raccoons that live too close to the buildings on my property is fun and easy with this set up.

What tires do you recommend for varmint hunting? And - 26" or 29"? Clipless or flats?

You will need tires with good traction since the chase can take you in many directions. I also recommend a rear shock so your gun is not bouncing on your back. For sure 26" tires for the maneuverability and flats so you can jump off the bike fast and get your shot.

Last night I shot 6 coons and a skunk. Not bad for my first night out. It also doesn't hurt that I have 1400 acres of property at the tip of the thumb that I have just recently built over 13 miles of mountain biking trails on. Big fun in the thumb.

Here is a map of my private mountain bike trail system.

Sounds like a great place to host an MMBA end of season trail riding bonfiring party!

Looks like the Pointe aux Barques area.

Get some XC skis, and this winter you can have a Redneck Biathlon

Interesting idea. I have had some great inline skater parties here with huge bonfires on the beach. Now that I have all these trails on my property I am spending all my energy on my bike while the skates gather dust. I have to admit that keeping this many miles of trails open and rideable is a lot of work for one person. It would be nice to have some help. I did just recently get into dirt biking and that helps beat a nice single track into the trails.

I am near Pointe aux Barques. Do you have a place up here. I am looking for local mountain bikers to ride my trails with me. The XC skiing is awesome here when the conditions are right. I have carried my gun while skiing with little success. Maybe night skiing would produce more target opportunities.

Wow, just drove right through there Sunday, thinking that there should be mountain bike trails through here. Glad somebody is doing it!

We keep looking at property around the thumb for lakeshore views, but the right combo of access, price and location have yet to come up. You're a lucky man!

Good luck on your quest for lake view property. I am very lucky. My property has 7000 feet of lake front with a river running through the middle of it. I was out riding all day Sunday. Give me a shout if you are ever in the area with your bike and I will take you for a ride on my trails.

So true. I am on top of them before they realize what I am. I feel like the terminator. I like raccoons, but when they get into a building and destroy stuff, I don't like them so much anymore.

I'm in Imlay City.

Our friend's dad and brother have a place up in Grindstone City, and we go up there from time to time. Some nice roads to ride up there, if you don't mind flat and windy.

I am an easy bike ride from Grindstone City, that is if the wind is at your back. Flat and windy describes it pretty well up here and the roads are great for riding. You can also add sandy, rocky, muddy, swampy, and buggy to that list. There is a 25 or so foot high ridge that runs through the property and along the river. I have some fun fast as well as technical drops off it and some challenging climbs.

I'll be the first one to say this is pretty effed up....I don't think you're gonna have to worry about whether or not this will be in the newsletter.
