Coming up on my buddies who were stopped to fix a flat.

"They will LOVE this stoppie!"

And I went OTB as they all watched me crash on a flat, straight part of Maybury.

From last night at Stony...

"I wonder if that deer on the trail in front of me is going to move or not...

.... oh *beep* !"
Riding gets harder when you have kids...

...and not just because they're attached to your bike either.

Haha... I like this!

Umm, Latest last thought.

Oooh, Cool new trail I never tried, oh I should be able to clear that double... thud, ouch.

lesson learned, even the pro's dont approach stunts w/o a sizing-up, and I'm certainly no pro!

no tip pointing forward on the cleats, someone told me they were the symmetrical, I looked it up and they're not, turns out I had them at the 20 degree release instead of 15 degrees, took me a bit too long to get out of them, there's dots on the one that should go on the right shoe (http://www.crankbrothers.com/support/vi ... _setup.php).

A little different than most .... today on my commute home from work: "hey that guy isn't stopping his light's red....." then, one locked-and-skidded second later - "Oh *beep* this is gonna hurt." hit the side of his car with my side, walked out of it, no harm to the bike other than a bald spot. big big dent in his car. lesson learned - check cross traffic every time, even on red lights.

"You know...wheelies are fun - they just make you feel like a kid"
WHAM!!

Followed by writhing on the ground after going over backwards - fully clipped in. It ain't fast or brutal, but coming down from 4ft up, flat on your back gets your attention....
This is an enduring favorite of mine, or more accurately, a favorite of my friends. So much so that it's fast becoming my legacy. I've performed it on at least six or seven different occasions since the mid 90's Usually takes place on a flat part of the trail as the group comes back together - park road crossings in Maybury, two tracks in Tree Farm, road crossings at Poto - whatever. The script is different, but the result is always the same.

More recently at the Maybury TT::
"Boy, it took a while to pass those last two guys - better build up a gap to keep 'em behind me." WHAM!!
tapped a pedal on a rock (hammering where I usually coast) thus tossing myself down a rocky little chute

At the trail head pre-ride to a friend:
"yeah man, i like crank bros pedals alot more than spd, alot more consistant and you never have to worry about your clip gap adjuster screws opening up."

followed by immediately falling over in the parking lot cuz i couldnt get my foot out and managing to get a facial raspberrry.

Turns out, the screws had come loose in the cleat so when i went to twist out they just stayed in place.
At least my buddy still laughs about it.

fortunately didn't result in a crash, but i discovered a nipple had broken on my wheel causing me to have one less spoke and one really out-of-round wheel. My wheels only have 28 spokes to begin with. I was getting ready to ride poto. I never, ever ride poto carefully. I was afraid of hurting myself. I didn't thank the mighty pumpkin.

Last weekend at Poto, flying around a corner into one of the more technical descents, i feel myself going over the bars in slow motion. Just at the point of no return i think to myself "I should really let go of the front brake...", which i did, but just in time to brace for impact.
