I will be racing next weekend. Good luck to you all. Seaman and I did the 80 yesterday. The Pine Grove bridge is open. It is supported with scaffolding and screw jacks (if that is such a thing). The ferns are huge. Not as many trees down as last year. More horse traffic and damage than I remember in years past. The trail was the muddiest I have seen it (3rd time around in 5 years) -- but not un-ride-able. There also was a LARGE black fly and mosquito hatch while we were out on the trail. No bugs when we got in Friday night -- lots of bugs when we got back.

Also some place between Osmun Rd and Pine Grove campground I lost my knee and arm warmers. They fell out of my camel back bungee. They are black pearl izumi knee warmers and blue defeet arm warmers. They were all nested in one knee warmer. If you all find them, please grab them for me and PM that you have them and what your favorite beer (or soda) is.

Thank you and good luck!

Chris

Newbie question...
Where does the fun part (50mile) start and end. Anyone that knows where they are going planning on doing only 50?

The 50 mile ride starts from Osmun road and ends at the camp ground, it usually starts an hour or two after the 80 mile guys take off. There will be plenty of people to team up with on this one. Just be sure to bring a couple bags to drop supplies like water and snacks at Pigeon River campground and at Rattlesnake hill.

I think Wendy & I are doing the 60mi from M33 around to the campground, so I'm volunteering my truck as the 1st stop for the 80mi group. There will be room for 2-3 people, if anyone wants to do the "Super60" with us.

I'm hoping to bring a second EZ-UP tent, pudding shots and a few free growlers courtesy of Mom&Pop Racing and Original Gravity Brewery.

Tom,
there is a chance of rain on Saturday. Think you and Joe can set up your amazing tarp again?

uh-oh. my amazing tarp is under 8000 gallons of kiddie pool right now. oops.

we'll figure something out. if it looks like a sure thing with the rain i may stop and get another tarp... i'm bringing the popup, so at least we'll have someplace dry to prepare food and whatnot...

Holy-kiddie pool!

That's twice the capacity of the 16' x 42" one that I set up this weekend. What were the dimensions on yours?

Larry

That tarp was a God-send last fall 8)

If the El-Bo Inn has one of those "Bikers Welcome" banners, should we ride up there in our full spandex

From the National Weather Service:

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming south southeast around 5 mph.

Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72.

40 percent chance of showers = 60 percent chance of no rain

the NWS still has no idea...

FRIDAY AND BEYOND...MODELS ARE A LITTLE FASTER WITH THE SYSTEM
THAN YESTERDAY. THE SYSTEM THAT WAS TO BE COMING INTO THE REGION
(ESP. THE ECMWF) ON SATURDAY IS NOW SLATED FOR FRIDAY AND THE SFC
LOWS AREN`T NEARLY AS DEEP. SO THE RAIN COMES IN ON FRIDAY AND
FRIDAY NIGHT. NAM LOOKS A BIT OVERDONE WITH THE GFS AND ECMWF
LOOKING MORE REASONABLE WITH THE SOLUTIONS. THE ECMWF HAS A WELL
DEVELOPED LOW MOVING INTO LOWER MICHIGAN, WHILE THE GFS HAS HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDING INTO THE REGION AND SFC LOW TO THE EAST OF THE
REGION. THE GOING FORECAST IS FOR A CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS, SO
LEFT THAT FOR THE TIME BEING. GUT FEELING IS THAT THE GFS IS
RIGHT, BECAUSE THE ECMWF HAS THE LOOK OF HAVING SOME CONVECTIVE
FEEDBACK. OF COURSE, THE SUNDAY FORECAST MAY HAVE TO BE CHANGED IF
THE ECMWF IS RIGHT, AND MORE CHANCE PRECIPITATION WILL HAVE TO GO
IN. THE GFS SUGGESTS THAT THERE COULD BE A STRAY SHOWER IN THE
AREA, BUT MOST OF THE TIME WILL BE RAIN FREE.

Same here. Rain will likely mean plenty of Hike-A-Boardwalk for me though. Could be just like last Fun 50, foot-surfing the bridges and boardwalks trying not to land on our asses   .

Still planning on the full 80?
