You're better than those that never even try.....

Exactly! Even though some of us may never be an FFG or do a sub 2hr 36 mile loop, etc...at least we are out there. There are a lot of people who couldn't even handle half of the 24 mile loop due to their lack of exercise.

I agree. At least we tried. I know you don't start off and win races and become this magical rider over night. It takes hard work, dedication and lots of seat time to become good.

I signed up the SMS message. Funny, 2-3 minutes after coming across the line, I was chatting with Tony from Race Services, and mentioned that I had to go look up my time. He asked if I had signed up for the messages, because if so, I'd have it.. Sure enough, it was on my phone already. He said he tested it at about 12 seconds from crossing the line to getting the text.

Very neat feature.

I feel the cross bike were the best for the course overall. But for only 2 1/2 weeks of flat road training, a brand new stumpjumer comp 29, shoes, and pedals; just pick them up 1 week ago: coming in at 1:49:23 in the 24 mile group. I'm extremly happy with those results. Looking forward to the rest of the races this year and the barry next year. I thought 2hours and 30 minutes was the best I would do.

Where? My max was 34.9, but I was also running out of gears on a lot of hills.

It looks like either Yeckley Rd. right after Tanner Lake (where the deputies were stopping traffic), or in those rolling hills right toward the end. Remember, I am equipped to take better advantage of gravity on downhills than most. I, too, ran out of gears in several places, including those.

You beat the cut-off, and you finished. DFL > DNF. Kudos for that alone. :icon_thumleft:

Next time will be easier. ;)

I do have an interesting bit on that. People who never even raced (or actually mtb'd) totally underestimate how demanding cycling is. They see the local drunk hobo riding a beat up trek down the street with no helmet and they think if a drunk hobo can do it, anyone can.

I had a college jock dude give me crap a while back about how cycling is a stupid sport and how anyone can do it. After we went out on a local trail he never talked smack again. I wasn't even trying and he couldn't keep up.
