I have broken ribs multiple times on both sides and the left collarbone. The good news is they both heal up well, the bad news is with broken ribs there is nothing they can do with them and everything you do makes them hurt. Coughing is a whole new experience and you don't even want to think about a sneezing once let alone 2-3 times in a row. I hope you don't have allergies. R & R time, get well soon.

Everyone was very supportive and professional during the whole thing, from the MTB patrol guy (name escapes me, rides for the Grayhounds. Made a great sling out of a bike tube) to the park supervisor who drove me out in the golf cart on steroids, to the paramedics/EMT people.

Can't remember much about the crash, except it was completely my fault. broken ribs and collarbone, i'm done for the year, but will continue to race all future events at this great course.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear that you're going to be alright. Bummer that it happened. I was spectating during the sport race and chatting with one of the park managers who was in one of the golf carts.....we could hear them over the radio trying to get someone to you quickly. Didn't sound good over the radio! Heal up!

Agreed on the coughing/sneezing with broken ribs  They also make laying down and getting out of bed an excersize in pain management!!

It sounds like just about everybody had a great time at the race.
It's good the hear the praise for the volunteers.

I'd like to "Call-out" the MTB patrol crew and thank them again.

I'd also like to thank the main crew who dedicates much of their lives to pull this race together.
I know that in a week or two, they will be meeting again to start planning the 2012 race. Yes, they plan this race a year in advance. The amount and quality of swag is a testimony to just some of the many hours spent over the year..

Without listing all the names, suffice it to say that just about everybody that takes care of this chapter, (Pres, VP, TC's etc.) took care of everybody at the race Sunday. Heck, Nick even promised and delivered on the sunshine! :D :D

I had three students in the race yesterday and all loved it. This race is close to home and is a top-notch representation of the mountain bike racing scene in Michigan. Great job, chapter crew.

And, not enough can be said for what Steve and MiSCA do to provide this opportunity for students.

First of all, let me say that this was the best race I have been to yet. I'm not exactly a circuit pro, but I've been to my fair share of races (road, mountain, running, orienteering, etc., etc.) and this was the best of any category. The timing, ease of finding things/people, spotters on the trail, announcer, swag, everything was top notch. My wife (a triathlete) agreed that she hadn't seen a better race.

A couple non-organizational comments:

First, props to all the young riders out there. Really good showings all around. However, I did notice one older rider giving a young rider (I would say 15 years?) a really hard time for not getting out of his way. Admittedly this gent was fast, and asked me to move (none too politely, but not real angrily either). When he approached the young rider just in front of me, he shouted in a very mean way "get out of the way, Masters here, move move move, come on! Move it! Let's go little guy, out of the way!!!" etc. etc. A constant barrage, top of his lungs, clearly very angry. The age difference between these fellows appeared to have been at least 30 years. I told him to stop being an ass and he cooled it a bit, but this is unacceptable. I guess what I'm saying is this sort of stuff happens, but let's not let the haters get away with it. I didn't catch the guy's number or team.

Second, whoever said that this ride was easier than Maybury or Stony is a big jerk ;) Fun course, I have to say, and I guess I'll agree that it's faster, but I think everyone who rode this course for the first time agreed that it has its challenges! What a great day to ride a really well-put-together course. Woot chapter.

I really wish that asshats like this just wouldn't participate. This is a race, which means a shared trail, and part of that is passing those who are slower than you. If you can't do this in a courteous manner then you don't belong out in the group.

Yeah, I'm probably that big jerk. I stand by my assessment, but it may have something to do with how often I ride it. It is a trail that definitely benefits from some familiarity.

In any case, I am very happy you had fun despite the challenges. :D

A racer is only as good as his/her ability to pass safely, politely, and quickly no matter what the situation. There are a ton of great places to pass at AO. Hope he didn't deter any new riders. Then of course there is also starting in Elite. Not as many youngsters to pass there.

yep, having been passed by many Pros and the like they are the best. All have been super fast and nice about passing, I am also nice about getting to a side (not stopping) and signaling what side too if they have not already called out a pass.

Unfortunately there are the few rotten apples that screw it up for the rest of us. Generally they are the ones that think they are way more important then they really are... masters and very young folks leads me to think beginner or sport classes.

I know I had a hard time getting around many of the younger riders. I might have been close to that passing groups comments as I did hear some complaints during the race. I stayed behind one of the younger kids after one such rant by another rider - I told the kid not to let "us" other riders get to them and to keep pushing them self, I was hoping some kinder motivation would help.

That being said, I did notice on a few different occasions that the varsity riders did not really know how to let the faster riders by - or were unwilling to. In other races I've done they start they younger riders after the sport class - that might have helped due to the speed of Addison.
