i remember the good 'ol days when you actually had to participate in a varsity sport to get a varsity jacket. i see kids with "dance" or "band" or "academics" & i wonder if it's not just another example of not excluding anyone & wanting everyone to feel good about themselves.

Poor jocks. Heaven forbid their exclusive club get the doors blown off and everyone be allowed to show off their accomplishments.

The conflict comes from the fact that football players are facing the reality that their 'sport' is as much of a sport as dancing and band...

...except marching band is more physically demanding over the long-term.

We had a football player do marching band one year and he was one of the first people to pass out during practice.
