Island Lake Trail Day. Saturday, September 29th

Postby fsr1 » September 17th, 2012, 5:43 pm

Here we go again! Summer is almost over, so it's time to resume work where we left of in the spring. There will a few smaller projects to work on but the main focus will be a large scale reroute that should add some character to the Blue trail. This is a pretty big project so the more hands the better.

We'll be meeting @9am in the Placeway parking lot. (Approximately 1/2 mi past Spring Mill Pond)

Bring
Work gloves
Water
Bug spray

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'd imagine bagels for breakfast and some sort of lunch will be provided.

What is the reroute rerouting? Or is that classified until the trail day?
Chocolate is the answer. The question is pretty much irrelevant.

I ride it a couple times a week. Its only about 4 min. from my house. If my back and leg let me I'll show up Sat. I"m currently trying to ease some swelling in the back causing some sciatic pain. ( At least thats what I think)

150 high school kids on the trail Saturday afternoon trimming. Think we can hijack some of them? Bet they'll find building reroutes way more interesting than trimming.

The DNR already contacted me about projects for them. I'm making a list.

We were out this afternoon clearing, marking and generally getting a good head start on things. What we really need are some of you folks. I can always rely on The Tree Farmers to show up En Masse but it will take more bodies than that. Please come lend a hand.

We will provide bagels and coffee in the morning and hot dogs and burgers for lunch.

Thanks in advance.

Hopefully, even a small fraction of the people who use and enjoy this trail can come out and help Mark this weekend. This trail gets so many users that even that small fraction should be a great turnout and make this project really easy. It's a rather large project that could use some help to complete and get in place prior to next year so please tell your friends who don't ready the board and Facebook. When completed it's going to be awesome. Nothing is more satisfying than riding the results of your hard work....

The feedback I'm hearing on the reroute is mostly positive with one exception. The downhill switchback coming out of the first new section is in need of some more attention. We were pretty certain more work would need to be done to this area but I'm told "It will need to be sooner rather than later". Be careful.
