Canton (MT) Trail Work Days May-14 & 21

Postby SANTA_CRUZ » May 12th, 2011, 11:34 am

Greetings, I am going to organize two trail work days for the Morton-Taylor trail (weather permitting)
this coming Sat, May 14th and again the following week Sat, May 21st. There will be many different things
to accomplish, but will include some general trimming & clean up, downed tree removal, log pile building, etc.

The plan is to meet in the main parking lot at 9:30am both days and go from there to the spots that need work.
If you come later you can find us working on the trail and I will put up a sign giving directions to where we are working. Things to bring would be lopers, a leaf rake, pair of work gloves, some work boots and bottle of water.
Directions to the park are available in the Trail Guide.

Thanks and hope to see you out there helping us get this trail ready for the grand opening on June 4th and
the summer riding season.

Had two of my reliable buddies come out and help me in the 3 hour rainless window Sat morning.
A BIG thanks goes out to Mike D and Rich F for showing up and chipping in. Unfortunately, the trail
is still quite muddy in most areas including the new section which is currently under a few inches of water
in spots, couldn't get much done there. But, I did clear the downed trees at the beginning of the South loop
(Whitetail trail) and we walked the East loop clearing back green brush that was hanging in the trail.
East trail is in decent shape, but Crooked Vulture is still quite muddy as well.

By the time we were heading back to our vehicles, the rain started again, so we got a little lucky.
Still have to get back to the West loop this week to clear the large tree and anything else we encounter.

Didn't see the post about the trail day till today. I'll try and make it this Saturday. See you there.
"Nice bruise. What did you hit, a tree?"

"No, the ground."

I know this is old, but if you ever do another cleanup there, let me know. I live close and actually rode there today. It was a great little ride and I would love to help out.

Hey Jay, I was a little surprized to see this at the top. Thanks for the offer of help and I will let you know when I organize a work day. Glad you enjoyed the trail and make sure to keep coming back, any trail needs regular riders !

Quick question. I was there today and saw a couple of face slappers. What am I allowed to do at these trails? If I am passing through a single track and see something like that, am I allowed to cut those branches and toss them aside? I didn't touch anything because I am new to this whole organization thing and I didn't want to make anyone mad.

Feel free to trim back any face slappers, pick up dead branches, push a downed tree out of the way, throw bark over a muddy spot, etc. Please just don't make re-routes or short cuts or wander into someone's yard that lives nearby....
