Bass River fall trail day, Oct. 2nd at Noon

Postby purple helmet » September 27th, 2010, 11:50 am

Join us in helping to make our local trail a better place.

Purpose of this weekend's trail day is two-fold:

The DNRE has a grant for some guard rail. This guard rail is intended to deter the ORV traffic at Bass, especially on the north side of the road. They have asked for some help installing it, because, as everyone knows, they are extremely short-staffed. I can't stress enough what a good impression it would make if some bikers show up to help with this project. Negotiations are coming to a critical stage for the Bass master plan. The equestrians want a horse playground, with all that entails. Let's show the DNRE what a great user group we are and how we deserve more trail at Bass!

Second part of the trail day is basic brushing/trimming and getting the trail ready for some fall/winter night rides! Night riding at Bass is the best, and pretty soon it's going to be one of the only places to go (no night riding at Luton, CSGA is closed, ski area closes soon...)

Meeting at noon. Hand tools, gloves, wheelbarrows are appreciated. I'm going to try to grab a couple of tools out of the trailer, also.

PM or post up with any questions!

going to be pretty gray and dreary for a bike ride w/the kids. should be nice for working, tho 8)

loppers or garden shears would be great. wheelbarrow/shovel/rakes for the overachievers. from what i understand someone went nuts with a chainsaw back there, so there shouldn't be many logs (or rideovers  ) left. we'll split into 2 or 3 teams, DNR guardrail team, kiosk team, and trail team. might be one person on each team

but ya never know :)

DNR is on the fence right now. They have one guy out sick, and it turns out that's like 33% of their regional workforce

We're meeting at noon no matter what to at least clean up the trail for fall. Hoping to still do the guard rail project, but won't know about that for sure until tomorrow morning.

So, loppers, snips, handsaws, chainsaws, shovels, wheelbarrows, and rakes are appreciated. Looks like a nice cool day for some trail work 8)

If we get a decent turnout and get done quickly I plan on doing some more trail scouting. Bring a bike!
