I'll try to get out this weekend to clear the tree.

Took a saw along tonight to try to tackle that branch but upon stopping I realized 2 things. 1 is that bug spray without deet sucks. 2 is that I'll need a bigger saw for that branch. I think #1 played a big part in #2

Everything was fine for me last night, did not stop so not bites for me. Almost lost a vertibea on that down tree, grazed my bag on it hard enough to slow me down. Wish I had a saw to take care of it.

Hi All,

Flagging of the expanded route of the trail in the northwest by the gravel pit will begin right after labor Day.

Cheers, Norm

Thanks for clearing the tree, Patrick. I've been out of town a lot for work along with some family commitments, so I've been a bit remiss on maintaining RHP the past month or so.

We now have an awesome new Stihl bush cutter with a solid four lobe blade...so new that it's not even dirty yet. Should make mince meat out of brush and undergrowth at RHP and HCP. So, anyone who has time for trimming at either place, please contact me to borrow it if you want to as it is MMBA property.

I finally got the chance to work at RHP with the new Stihl brush trimmer with the solid cutting blade. CONCLUSION: It's a beast. No problem cutting through woody stems and 'green' branches up to 1/2" thick. It struggles a bit on soft grasses, but only because they want to lay down and bend away from the blade.

After nearly 4 hours in the blazing heat of Saturday morning (stupid on my part, but that was the only time I had available), I hacked back a couple of sections at the beginning of Mile 2. There's still some additional trimming that hasn't been done this year in the last section before the bluff and at ~2.25 miles after the southwest meadow. I might be able to get out to RHP this weekend to finish. Let me know if you are interested in helping out.

We should soon be starting MTB trail expansion in the NW section in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on this forum for updates.

Tree down right before the big log pile, otherwise looks good

Removed the tree today, along with a bunch of other miscellaneous debris on the trail. There was another big cluster of branches/vines shortly after the 'tight' trees. There were also a bunch of 'apples' also along the western fenceline (before the big log pile) that I kicked off, I'm sure more will fall, so be careful. Could really tell where the new Stihl had been used... and it looked good.

If anyone gets some time:
The small log pile before the big log pile is looking a little rough, and may need a rebuild. Parts of the tree I just removed may be a good candidate for this.
A few sections of the trail could probably use a raking to remove some of the smaller branches before the leaves fall.

Mike I switch out the blade to this cutter head for the lighter stuff ;

and I use the plastic blades instead of the nylon string .

Great to hear. I was wondering how it held up in the rain. I hope to hit it tomorrow.
