Southwest: T.K. Lawless

For posting trail-specific conditions and problems

Postby Reptar » June 19th, 2006, 6:45 am

I rode at TK Lawless Saturday (6/17). The trails are in good shape except there is a tree down, blocking the entire trail, around mile 3 (maybe... I didn't think to look down at my computer).

I only rode from the beginning to the shortcut around mile 6, so I don't know about anything after that. My dad was with me and he was done after 6 miles.

I rode T.K. this morning. WOW. What a great trail! This trail is a ton of fun. Kudos to all who have been working on it.

Mile markers were great. But I didn't know when the trail forked, if I was taking the long route, or the shorter one.

(I took the cut off at the end, and went back and did the back section that I missed.)

Is TK Lawless closed now? I was thinking of riding it this weekend.

Yeah, I think that's correct. They closed on October 31st. I just updated the Trail Guide.

As I recall Cass County Parks makes their money from selling trail passes and hunting access. Tis the hunting season.

Website and phone number:

I called the park and the recording said mountain bike trails will open in "mid-April" and to call for updates.

Is there some reason this is still marked as closed?

I rode out here for the first time Sunday.
WHAT A FUN RIDE!!!! well worth the drive to get to it.
My only beef, i thought the signage is lacking and was confused about where to go a couple time, especially at the beginning, as the "start and "finish" are about 5 feet apart and we were unsure which trail to take at first.

Also, signs were up everywhere declaring the trails closet Nov 1st

What kind of condition was the trail in? I understand that the NIMBA takes care of this trail more because its just north of the Indiana/Michigan state line.

Next year...we will make it down there.

I was looking at riding at Lawless next week, and was wondering what the condition of the trails are? Muddy?

I also would like to get out to Lawless soon. It is an hour and a half drive for me though, and I would like to make sure it is worth the drive...

Anybody have info on the conditions? Last time I was there a few trees were down (last mid-summer).

The NIMBA (northern indiana mountain bike association) says that the trail is in good condition...except for a boggy area. I would say its a go!!!!!!!!
