Pine Haven trail report

Postby DF Bernard » April 14th, 2004, 8:36 pm

The Pine Haven singletrack is in good condition considering this being early spring. There is still a large fallen tree over the trail about half-way. Last year I just dismounted and went under it. This year I noticed some riders taking a bit of a short-cut - this only cuts out about 20-30 yards of trail. What's needed here is a chainsaw!

The very end of the trail - where the singletrack converges with the "Easy" trail - is very muddy/boggy. This can be avoided by riding the skating trail out to the parking lot.

Have fun!

The tree I referred to in my recent post has been taken care of. Thank you to whomever did the work - I appreciate it!

The rest of the trail is in great shape. There are still some muck sections with some pretty thick slime - really gunks up my brakes. Other than that, the riding has been great!

Pine Haven is a complete mess!! There are numerous trees down, 3-4 huge washouts, and the back half of the park isn't reachable 'cause the river is so high! What you can reach is pretty wet and sloppy. Best bet is to stay off of it until about, oh, say July!!

Pine Haven is in good shape now. Rode there a week ago Saturday, only a couple damp spots. Did a small section of the xc ski trail, that was nice & dry too.

Group rides near Pinehaven leave around 5:30 on Wed. Rides have started. Call Ray's Bike shop in Midland for details.

I know this is probably a given, but must have helmet and be self-sufficient.
Hey!! Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?!

Great Memorial Day!

Postby Lazman » May 30th, 2005, 6:26 pm

Trails were mostly dry today with the exception of the lower lying areas. Trail 7 was terribly muddy. The rest were very good. Had a wonderful day at Pine Haven. :D

Pine Haven in need of trail work

Postby DF Bernard » June 17th, 2005, 3:55 pm

I rode Pine Haven last night, and discovered the trail is definitely in need of some loving attention. First, there is a great deal of overgrowth that simply needs trimming back, as well as several low hanging branches.

In addition, the recent storms dropped two very large trees over the trail. I have the number of the county crew that will take care of that, and I will be calling to inform them.

I'll be out of town on a northern bike riding adventure, but I am planning on organizing a trail day for Pine Haven in early July. Hope many of you can make it!

I haven't been out to Pine Haven in @ 10 years. My girlfriend and I went out there Thursday night for a little while. We didn't take too much of the hard stuff seeing she is a beginner and I haven't trail ridden in a few years either.

A couple trails were somewhat muddy and a little rough from a couple of horses but nothing unbearable. One of the intermediate trails did run into a lot of water. We ended up turning around. I walked some of it and I was over-my-ankles-deep for a ways to see if it got better but it didn't.

I think the downhill you are talking about threw me over the bars on one of my first outings there several years ago.

I too will be back with the GF. She had a lot of fun on her first real MTB trails. Hartwick Pines wasn't much last weekend other than rainy.
