There is too much snow on the ground anyway. Give Dennis and I a couple of more weeks to secure something.

Trail description

Postby Bengtad » March 26th, 2005, 11:53 am

I am fairly new to this area and haven't ridden Owasippe. Is it similar in terrain to Ft. Custer or Yankee Springs? Any description would be helpful.
Thanks!

Anyone know if Owisippee is still open? The trail guide says it closes on June 15th so I thought I would try and get out there this Sat. late morning before it closes for the summer (or forever if the sale goes thru).

the yellow trail is fun, but not marked very well. the first wood bridge is a little shakey too. haven't rode the red or blue but hoping to ride them both soon. I'm a newbie at mtb'ing but loving it so far.

Slowpoke and I rode Sat. am. We rode the yellow trail 1st and then headed out on the red next. The red trail is a blast! We both liked the red trail alot more than the yellow. The yellow has a lot of sand at the beginning (along the white portion when you 1st head out from the parking lot heading clockwise on the trail and continuing on for a bit) and the finish on the yellow is a boring dirt service road but in between it is pretty fun and very scenic following around a couple of lakes. If you do the yellow, be sure to finish on the red portion of the trail back to the parking lot, we didn't do that but it appeared as though it was singletrack instead of dirt service road. Next time we would ride it, we would ride the red and hookup with the blue trail and then finish on the red again.

I didn't see anything on the bulletin board at the parking lot that states the trail closes for the summer. Seems they would post something on the bulletin board if it were closed for the summer. Makes me wonder where the date on the trail guide came from??? Def. on my list to do again if it remains open....

Heard something interesting last week. I heard that the developer who has proposed to buy Owossipi plans to sell a large portion of the property to the Gerald R Ford council in Grand Rapids. Does anyone know anything about this? Any news on the status of the sale?

Is this trail open or not? If so, what should I expect there. Never been and thought about trying it out. Thanks.

I received some information from a very reliable source last night at the western chapter meeting that the guy at the camp said that there are no scouts there after August 1st this year so it may not be a problem to get back out there after 8-1 :D
